ALL PRAISE JOHN CURRIE FOR ACTING A YEAR TOO LATE

Currie has shown us exactly who he is: in indecisive suit who is afraid of making a bold move, much more comfortable riding in the wake of others. What’s the Maya Angelou quote, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

I would imagine Currie, has, in fact, done a lot of the legwork behind the scenes. I certainly hope so. But how likely is it that the university takes on a coach's eight figure buyout in a time when they're putting a freeze on hiring and curtailing all capital projects?

Considering all the cuts and freezes, no way the Wake BOT approves 8 or even 7 figures of buyout for Danny. Particularly with the prospect of no season in 20-21.

This is a very good point. What's worse than paying Danny is paying two coaches not to coach. Hopefully, by May 1, we'll have a better idea where the world is.

Any coach who is interested in replacing Manning has also been doing some due diligence - contacting people whose opinion they trust for an honest assessment of Wake's existing talent, watching tape, but probably not reading the message boards.

Here is how the Crisis Response funds will be used:

Assistance with food needs of students and campus employees at home
• Assistance with housing crises, including basic rent payments
• Support for international students who are unable to return to their home country
• Extra medical needs of students in self-isolation or quarantine
• Unbudgeted costs for safety equipment for on-campus employees in housing and food service
• Access to technology for remote instruction
• Student travel expenses to return home
• Continuing pay for those who are experiencing reduced hours of work

That’s actually very solid.

Concerning. Here is a quote:

Like many of you, Wake Forest is confronting complex and difficult decisions. Keeping our community safe and protecting the integrity of our students’ education remain our priorities. To do that, we have aggressively cut costs where we can. For example, we are implementing a hiring freeze and delaying progress on all capital projects. Ultimately, we are searching for every way we can preserve our greatest asset: the people who make us who we are.

Anyone who thinks MSD is going to take on the additional financial burden of a basketball coach's buyout right now is delirious. Those who wish to bitch and moan about the fact that Currie didn't fire Manning his first day on the job, have at it. Not exactly the most productive thing to do, but it is something to do.

Exactly. Not complicated.

If we are keeping Manning, and we most certainly are, then Currie should at the very minimum be promoting Manning and trying to prop his unsteady ass up. Instead, all we have are rumors of a buyout that never happened and silence- the very things that make an already terrible coach an even easier target. I know we all ridiculed Wellman for "Heavens yes" but at least he made an effort to make [Redacted] look better than he actually was, as clumsy as it may have been. Currie seems content with just kneecapping Manning by indecision and silence.

The fact nothing has happened certainly indicates nothing has been decided. If Danny is definitely coming back, Currie could tweet it into the ether.

If Texas is worried about money regarding Shaka it’s completely unrealistic to think Wake would take on a huge buy out under these circumstances.

Not to mention p5 coaches have not been let go since this crisis began. Wake would appear prey tone deaf to cut manning loose now.

FUCK YOU, JOHN CURRIE

Yep. There are contracted Aramark employees in the pit that may not get paid (hopefully this fund will help with food and housing). I think it’s extremely unlikely anything happens with Wake’s basketball coach in the near future.

Meh paying out millions on a fully guaranteed contract isn’t exactly harsh even in Corona times. Should have been fired years ago. Months ago. Now it doesn’t really matter. Looking forward to seeing how Currie tries to sell this sack of horseshit when basketball season returns again. It is absolutely embarrassing for an original ACC program to have been run this way for so long. And the AD and donors just move along like everything is normal. Anyone who is still giving or buying season tickets is equally to blame.

This money was never coming from Wake. It was going to be funded by big donors. While their situation has definitely been impacted, Wake having to pay its employees doesn’t factor in.
