ALL PRAISE JOHN CURRIE FOR ACTING A YEAR TOO LATE

Business owners are conserving every penny to keep the business alive and to pay employees as best they can. Most have very reduced incomes. Take a look at the list of Moricles. Almost all of them will have income and wealth negatively impacted by the stock market crash and economic shutdown. If Currie had the money in Feb, it could well have evaporated in March.

Right now Currie has immediate issues, starting with the loss of over $1 million on expected revenue from the Men's NCAA basketball tournament. Also big loss of ACC Tournament revenue. Not yet announced, but happening.

Do we know those payouts aren’t coming? All those events should have even insured.

NCAA already announced payout from Men's BB Tournament at $225 million. Expected was over $600 million. So yes. That much is real. Insurance doesn't cover everything.

If we are stuck with Manning and it looks like we are, then how come Currie just won't come out and say "Hell yeah, Danny Manning is my guy and I've got utmost confidence in him." We all know that would be 100% bullshit, but Manning could at least use that when he is in a recruit's living room. It would also cost exactly zero dollars for Currie to say something supporting Manning since money is the big issue here, but still all we have is deafening silence from Currie. It's not hard...fire his ass or publicly support him but enough of this "coaches and players still have not heard anything and don't know one way or the other"- that is not leadership.

Because he has had 11 months to do it and hasn't done it. It was his only job to get done and he failed. So either he doesn't want him gone or is incompetent, and either one means he needs to gtfo as well.

No. His job was to replace Manning with a winner. Firing Manning is worthless without a great replacement.

Yep, Insurance doesn't cover close to the full cost of the Tourney. NCAA dipped into its reserve fund (which is already down from a high of $700M 5 years ago to under $400M today) to help make the $225M payout.

NCAA has said each league (all 32 of them) will get $1.675M out of that $225M total. They haven't disclosed how the other $171M will be distributed.

Also, if there is a college basketball season next year expect fewer home buy games. AA's won't have the money to bring in as many lower level teams and pay them for the game. Expect alot of P6 schools to be looking for more home and home series with other P6 schools. So fewer home games overall but more high level home games. It is going to be really hard on the low and mid major programs as they rely on those buy games to fund their athletic departments. Alot of them are already saying they are having issues getting buy games with P6 teams for next season. ND is a good example of this. Last season they had 7 home buy games. Brey has been told by his AD he can have no more than 4 this upcoming season.

Finally, the financial crunch may also impact whether the SR in spring sports get an extra year. it is apparently no longer a slam dunk that an extra year of eligibility for them is going to be approved next Monday.

Basically as schools realize they have less money and would have to pay out even more money (extra expenses) to fund the scholarships for the extra year, they are not sure they can do so.
There are also legal issues that would have to be resolved and they really don't want to set a precedent in case college football is cancelled this fall.

So we dont fire Manning until we have a winner for a replacement? so say the next 3-4 years we wanna fire Manning but dont have a winner replacement? yea sure great logic. your doing wayy more damage to the bball program by keeping him, if you cant make a home run hire find a Forbes type guy to turn this thing around.

I wonder if we might see ACC schools who are not scheduled to play each other twice get Swofford's blessing to change that with one desinated as a no-conference game. Also a good time explore games with former ACC teams UM and USC. If Manning is still around, schools make be knocking on Currie's door to set up games. Saving on travel expenses has to be something of a concern.

That would make sense. Add a two year home-home with teams who are only scheduled to play once.

Another solution for Big Four teams would be to actually play games at UNC-W, UNC-G, UNC-A, HP, A&T, etc. Straight forward solution to travel costs and buying games.

Agree. We might also see the return of doubleheaders. Split the cost of the G-boro Coliseum four, not necessarily equal, ways. Might be cheaper for Wake than the cost of opening up the Joel for 4,000 fans.

That idea has not been received favorably by many on this board for football; re: App State. Me, I have no issue w/it regardless of sport.

That's a good idea too. A Thursday through Sunday set up at the Coliseum could go something like this:

Thursday
7:00 Wake Forest vs UNC-G
9:00 Duke vs High Point

Friday
7:00 NC State vs. NC A&T
9:00 UNC vs. Campbell

Saturday
7:00 Wake Forest vs High Point
9:00 Duke vs UNC-G

Sunday
7:00 NC State vs. Campbell
9:00 UNC vs. NC A&T

Add some women's games on Saturday and Sunday afternoon as well.

If Currie cant fire Manning this year, what makes anyone think he will fire him in a year from now?

And how exactly will circumstances be different other than the buyout dropping 3 mil??

Next year there might actually be a football season, a basketball season, an ACC tournament, etc. But right now, none of those things are guaranteed. Why would you want Wake Forest, your alma mater, to take on the financial obligation of a coach’s buyout who isn’t going to coach anyway?

off chance that the world's economy won't be stranded in the fifteenth century next year too
