24/7 2018 Final Rankings are out:
Hoard up 18 spots to #15
Mucius down 4 spots to #102
No other Wake recruits ranked in the top 247
Some big moves for a lot of guys.
Of interest:
Lukas Kisunas down 14 spots to 158 (still not committed)
Robert Braswell up 62 spots to 166 (still not committed)
John Newman fell 23 spots to 178 (Clemson) - I thought he'd been playing very well and would move up
FWIW:
Jamie Lewis - 256
Christian Lorng - 272
Sharone Wright Jr - 294
Lewis' ranking is not correct if he's healthy...
Lewis' ranking is not correct if he's healthy...
When he was healthy he was in the 60-70. No one knows how serious the injuries were. That's why I said "if healthy".
what do you mean his ranking "is not correct"
they ranked him there. it's a correct ranking.
are you just saying he's underrated if healthy? because, you know, the whole "not playing after two years of major nonstop injuries" thing might render even a 100% recovered Lewis pretty useless
The rankings are what they are... Every player on the list has a unique story and set of circumstances.
Of course they aren't "correct" in their projections of future performance at the college level, but it's the best system we have.
I think one of Lewis, Lorng, or Wright will be a surprise (meaning simply that they are worthy of minutes in the ACC), but signing 3 guys outside the Top 250 recruits is not how you build a program that can compete in the ACC.
Lewis, specifically, is a HUGE wildcard, given nobody has seen him play decent competition in more than 2 years. I'd like to think he'll work out for us, but to act like he's easily a Top 100 guy, if healthy, is setting yourself up for disappointment.
Out side of Hoard, we have another 2016-esque class coming in. Even if one of Lewis, Lorng, or Wright out play their rankings that would put them where, in the low 200s? This is the class that is going to revolutionize our team and take us to the second round of the NCAA.
I don't get how a guy can be #272 on 247 with offers from Auburn, GT, Memphis, F$U, South Carolina, Clemson, Texas Tech and Georgia.
I am far less negative that that.
You can't say "Outside of Hoard"... Because he's the highest ranked recruit we've had in a decade. That is kind of important.
Also, Mucius is ranked much higher than any of our 4 2016 recruits (with the odd exception of SJM being Top 100 in 24/7).
2016 24/7 (composite):
SJM - 96 (170)
Childress - 188 (192)
Washington - 240 (215)
Mitchell - 263 (269)
2018 24/7 (composite):
Hoard - 15 (21)
Mucius - 102 (90)
Lewis - 256 (270)
Lorng - 272 (351)
Wright Jr - 294 (272)
I get your point, though... Lewis/Lorng/Wright are the type of players who might be gone in a year. I disagree on the potential for "outplaying their rankings." I'd argue Childress has been much better than the 37th best PG in his class. He played over 20mpg in each of his first two years. If one of Lewis/Lorng/Wright plays significant minutes in the rotation this season, that is much better than Top 200 level performance.
Harris is definitely going to Virginia Tech. That was the only staff who were able to get him playing hackey-sack in the street. Obviously, once you've played a round of that, a unique bond is formed. Excellent recruiting strategy.
