We live in a two party political system. Which means that political choices at the the national level are functionally going to be between two choices.

The Republican party has made abundantly clear that Choice #1 is Trump. Not only as a presidential candidate, but always as a symbol and example-setter for the whole party. By nature of the two choice system, whatever the Democrats are putting forward as Choice #2 is always going to be compared to what the Republicans are putting forward, which is again unquestionably Trump and MAGA politics.

So yeah, the conversation is always going to be a comparison to Trump, and it always will be until the option that the Republicans are providing is not Trump.

And this not only sucks for the minority of Republicans like yourself that dislike Trump, but it also sucks for Democrats.

Because it means that the only bar Democrats feel they have to clear is Trump, which is a damn low bar. So even though many Democrats want a lot more out of their politicians than what is being offered, the politicians know that as long as they present themselves as an option that clears the bar of Trump they will get support from Democrat voters.
 
maga is the culmination of 40 YEARS of republican brainwashing. Reagan's "never speak bad about a republican" mantra gave us maga.

now imagine not realizing that. Imagine not realizing you lived inside that echo chamber for... 10? 20? 35? Years of brain washing. But at least you got off right before the insurrection.
