Bracketology 2017

Well that is not true as anyone who had Rhode Island already in the field certainly would have had them in Dayton. Now a team that was free of Dayton is getting sent back to the play in game.

The play-in game is part of the field.....

Only the four worst auto qualifiers get sent to Dayton -- same for the four worst at-larges. As an auto qualifier Rhode Island will not be playing in Dayton

the experts seem to somewhat agree that the bubble is this:

Out: Cal, Illinois, Iowa

Four of these 6 are in, likely in Dayton, with 2 out: Providence, WF, USC, KSU, Syracuse, Ill. State

These teams are almost certainly in, possibly in Dayton: VCU, MSU, Xavier, Vandy, Seton Hall, Marquette, maybe South Carolina could fall to Dayton

Winner of this Michigan/Wisconsin game def a possible opponent.

I'd rather face the Badgers

The best news here is that -- BY FAR -- Wake played the strongest non-conference schedule of any of these teams. The committee almost always rewards teams that schedule up.

If they were to forgive that (and every other teams' bad losses) with the others and give them the benefit of the doubt for their RPI Top 50 wins -- while also throwing a bone either to Illinois State or USC on the strength of the Pac-12 top three -- that would be a very significant departure from past practice.

Not to mention a departure from the recent emphasis on metrics, where Wake has a significant edge over all but Kansas St.

I believe we are in. Then the question becomes, do we bump one of those other teams out of Dayton? Did the committee have URI in Dayton / VCU in the first round, and will those two just get flipped?

Lunardi has us back playing KState/SMU, then L'ville. How does Vandy go up in seedings after getting absolutely drilled yesterday? It's absurd,

if michigan win this and duke having won, can we put to bed the fatigue excuse for not winning a few games on consecutive days?

I saw one extended interview with a committee member (or maybe past committee member) that said they don't really put as much emphasis on conference tourneys as you may think.

I tend to think they might have a lot of easy swap scenarios. Such as swap Duke/UNC, UM/Wisconsin, SMU/Cincy, maybe even URI/VCU - just to keep it simple. We'll see what the bracket looks like and maybe some of those will be obvious

Wake looked fatigued. Some teams obviously didn't/don't. There were plenty of reasons we lost to VT. Conditioning was undoubtedly one of them.

Andy Bottoms (#1 bracketologist) has Wake/USC then Wisconsin, Louisville

Yes. Talking heads just gotta talk, even if they have no evidence to back up their "expert knowledge". :)
