I don't agree with this. Trump is being trapped by the media/twitter, not the other way around. If Trump had more self control than your average five year old, he'd be promoting some lie that is more believable.

In any case, the flip side of not getting trapped by petty shit is that letting him get away with lying about inconsequential shit makes it easier for him to lie about consequential shit.

He's trapped with what? Arguing about a map? Thats not convincing anyone to change their minds. The news have dozens of real life topics they could trap and harass him with until he answers or the public decides he's useless. Instead its golf and sharpies. Or whatever new 8 second clip they can run with. The news is going the route of TMZ because Americans can't focus on a topic for more than that. We have the government we deserve.

True. The House Dems should have a press secretary who comes out everyday and hammers the Republicans on substantive topics as a way to keep the real stuff in the news. Instead they essentially leave Trump alone to control the media cycles.

I agree that the media suck, I just don't agree that Trump is some evil genius master manipulator (even though he'd like us to think so, as this is the tactic he is currently taking). Trump is a stupid spoiled brat who didn't know where Alabama was, and became very defensive when he was called out. The sheer volume of his shittiness means that there are almost always multiple stories for the media to cover, and it's simply a statistical certainty that they will latch on to the less impactful but more entertaining one from time to time.
 
You’re right he’s not a genius and he is a spoiled brat. But his instincts are honed to the value of distracting media attention. It’s the only thing he has ever been good at. Sucks at business, sucks at relationships, sucks at academics, sucks at golf, sucks at parenting, sucks at everything except manipulating the easily manipulated through press and TV. That’s how he got laid a lot. He preyed on simple women with nothing more than modeling careers, preys on lower middle class racist white voters in southern and midwestern states.

He made a deal with the GOP when he won the nomination to govern to their whims as long as they protected him from prosecution for his corruption and idiocy.
