I never really wanted to ever have to get one but there was like this six month period where I just couldn't help it and I needed to bridge some things before I paid off one of my student loans. Then I thought I'd be flying more out of a delusional belief I might be able to do a long-distance thing with a woman (read that one wrong!), and so got an airline card that I think I've gotten two (maybe three) flights out of in 10 years, the debt has gotten transferred to like two or three different places, and I haven't used it in a couple of years but I'm still paying way too much monthly and barely making a dent. So a lot self-inflicted but it also just feels so stupid.

IMO $20 each, handed to them individually.

If there's a foreman/supervisor that's only there for part of the time, I don't tip them.

I also go out of my way to make sure there's a cheap cooler (so that they can take it) with good/different stuff for anybody working outside of the house and make sure there's open access to the guest bathroom.

I usually put out Gatorades/juice boxes/soda/water, along with iced towels & lunchables. It's amazing how often the Lunchables go first.

I put ~$20 total into the cooler, and have a few $20s ready for cash tips.
this. I do very similar. Depending on how big the job is i may go a little higher on the tip amount. But always drop some cash on guys working at my house.
I usually tip them when they get there....amazing how much cleaner they are when i've tipped them ahead of time.

Its a feel thing though. If i have an electrical problem and call a repair guy, usually not a tip. Construction, remodel etc almost always a tip.
Not sure what the line is there, but like porn, I know it when i see it

Read an article recently that only something like 35% of Gen Zers tip at sit down restaurants. I'm not usually one to attack younger generations, but what a bunch of assholes.

Yeah that's pretty shocking.

What's more of a sham overall: tipping or credit? I 100% tip at every sit-down restaurant, but why the hell am I footing the bill because a restaurant doesn't want to pay a livable wage? And yes, I know a lot of bartenders and higher end service folks like tips because they can make more than they would on a higher hourly wage.

Yeah agreed all around here. 1) You're an asshole if you don't tip (even if...) 2) the restaurant should be providing appropriate pay for the employees. And yeah I'd imagine most folks in the service industry working in either a "higher" cuisine type setting or at a popular non-chain spot would be furious if the tipping system changed lol

I also don't believe that article because if this were true I'd hear one hell of a lot more about how my wife didn't get tipped out by "these young kids again." The complaints I hear about tips are...not age related where there is a "theme" just based on the last decade of stories.

I've only ever had one real credit card in my life that wasn't primarily an overdraft thing, and it's totally fucking me now and it's just annoying. It was probably all predictable and obvious but I just never really wanted to pay attention to any of that stuff. I think I have a pretty good credit score, though, but I'm gonna need to consolidate or something to lower my monthly payment because the interest rate shot up and I'm just kind of broke. Ah well. Definitely a scam. I don't really even buy anything, I'm not sure how this happened -- mostly car issues and then things just kind of snowball. I definitely don't have a lot of stuff or expensive habits.
There are plenty of cards you can get that will have deals where you can transfer a balance for a one time 5% fee, and carry that balance interest free for a year to a year and a half. Much better than eating 25% interest rate charges.

I had a delinquent car payment like almost exactly 7 years ago and I'm anxiously waiting for that to roll off the ole credit history

Did this multiple times while paying off student loans, and has an overall net positive effect on your credit rating if you pay it off before that interest free period ends.

Think I even did it once with like a $400 balance down bad when I was like 22, tho most have a minimum balance transfer amount.

Yeah, not sure yet if I want to transfer a balance and potentially get caught in the same situation, or just take out a loan to knock some/all of it off and just pay back to my credit union and keep it simple, but I need to do something. Not talking like ridiculous money here, I am just poor.
