It’s kind of a relief when you’re reading a sports thread and someone’s posted some winding multi paragraph and you’re like man I didn’t come here for this, now I have to use mental energy to read through this post and then you realize it’s a jaybone take so you can just skip it.
 
Might get to go on my first donor pick up in the next week or so to wonderful Galax, Virginia.

I'm curious myself. Sounds like we're going to an old abandoned recording studio or two and picking up a bunch of shit. Curator mentioned barbecue though, so I'm intrigued.

Have you seen the George Hamilton IV narrated video on the vibrant development and future of downtown Winston in the 70s? That's good stuff, too.



Also, you want to see some crazy raw footage, check out the youtubes for the Greensboro anti-KKK rally in '79. Chilling shit, man.

I'll have to watch the whole thing later. Definitely cool tunes, though. Boss is out checking out Galax for some advance work this afternoon, so maybe then.

When I was at Wake my VA license expired and because I had a moving violation under the age of 18 I had to retake the written exam.

Galax was the closest DMV to I could find to Wake.

Not a whole lot going on there as I recall.

At one time the flagship radio station of the Wake Foest radio network was a (the?) station in Galax.
 
Galax has a pretty grand old old-time music tradition. Apparently some good porch pickin' going on there and regular jams.

Once when I was at my Dad's in Rural Hall, I was bored, got on tinder and made my radius super wide. Matched with some young woman from Galax who was very interested in meeting up, but I got kind of a weird vibe, and she had a kid. She wanted me to listen to her music though, and it was alright. Couple of years later I was seeing pieces on her on NPR and other semi-major media outlets. Kind of funny. My new job has even posted some of her shit to their social media pages -- it would be super funny if I ran into her. Not sure she would remember.
 
it's a weird phenomenon: things you remember about a person that you're pretty sure they would have no recollection of
