I haven't Google translated this yet. Something about Bolsonaro and coronavirus.

California just posted 11,500 new cases. I believe that is the most of any single day cases in any state outside of New York.

Barely. Florida reported 11,458 on Saturday. Florida will probably top 12,000 some time this week.

Florida has just over half the population of California.

And 11,500 cases generally means cases that were tested a few days ago. So real number would be up, not to mention all the undiagnosed cases. Although California shouldn't have that many undiagnosed ones unless people just are staying at home and roughing it.

Yea, Florida is doing as bad now as New York was in the peak if you disregard the demographics of the people infected.

It will be interesting to track the death numbers in places like California, Texas, and Florida. So far they are low but massive spikes in hospitalizations make it seem like big numbers are to be expected shortly.

Texas had over 8,000 people hospitalized in a single day, that's crazy.

Dan Patrick will be proud of all those dying for the economy.

Next people with wheel barrels screaming “bring out your dead!”

Over the weekend, Bolsonaro attended several events and was in close contact with the US ambassador to Brazil during 4 July celebrations.

The US embassy in Brasilia said via Twitter that Todd Chapman, the ambassador, had lunch with Bolsonaro, five ministers and Bolsonaro’s son, Eduardo, who is a federal congressman. The ambassador had no symptoms, but would undergo testing and was “taking precautions”, the embassy said.

A photo posted on Twitter by Brazil’s foreign minister, Ernesto Araújo, shows Bolsonaro, Chapman and others sitting around a table, not wearing masks.

Dude with the beard might as well take a vial of coronavirus and inject it, at least that would speed up his case, whatever resolution it might have.

Pretty sure that's the guy who posted the picture.

Bolsonaro is positive. I guess we’ll see if he’s right about it being nothing.

So locally there was a big story in the paper today about teenagers getting the virus in one of the suburbs. To put in perspective how behind the news is, we know some of the kids who were part of that outbreak. It happened almost 20 days ago. So now parents around the metro will be paying attention to the activities of their teenagers only they are getting the news 20 days AFTER this particular group of teenagers contracted the virus. How many more people have been infected in the interim is all down to when those teens realized they might be infected and how well they managed to isolate.

Also, to add to how screwed up things are. I know of an outbreak involving about 15 people. 4 of those 15 initially tested negative for the virus after being exposed but having no symptoms. They go back to living their lives. A day or two later they get a symptom or two and get tested again. Positive. Further, people are testing positive for weeks after they have no symptoms and Drs believe but are unable to assure that they are not contagious any longer. It really drives home that not only must you test but you must demand those who have been exposed behave like they have the illness even if they have no symptoms.

Now multiply the above scenarios into a place like Florida right now. 10-11K cases every day confirmed. How many permutations of the above?
Truly alarming.

Is Florida still not publishing their hospitalization/ICU daily data? I know that's been a gap in the data for a while now.
