Any updates on the FL COVID numbers?

PhDeac? Birdman? Former 'pub Connor?

I glanced back a few pages and didn't see any recent FL updates which is surprising because I remember the sunshine state numbers were a major topic of discussion both here and in the MSM.

I've had 2 extended family members (2nd and 3rd cousins) die in the last 2 weeks in Florida from Coronavirus. Funny, huh?
Fuck you, Brad

Oh FFS... The pearl clutching over here has reached a new milestone.

Feel free to post an example where I 'laughed' about or 'celebrated' any COVID related death. I'll hang up and listen.

Total COVID deaths in FL, TX, GA, and AZ COMBINED are just over 32k. The fact this number is not higher should be acknowledged even by those who bought into and pushed the fear porn narrative that these same states would see much higher death totals.

Total COVID deaths in NY are at 33k yet the governor of NY is writing a book about COVID leadership lessons because he has a (D) following his name and Cheeto-Man... BADDD.

You know, a decent human being might be able to manage a "sorry for your loss" here.

YES!!! Thanks for sharing the 'recent' death rate stat.

What is the medical definition of 'recent'? Yesterday? Last week? Last month?

Feel free to share the overall or per capita death rate for NY vs. FL when you take a break tonight from the MSNBC prime time lineup.

At the risk of feeding the troll, here's the actual data requested. https://graphics.reuters.com/HEALTH-CORONAVIRUS-USA/0100B5K8423/index.html

Florida ranks third in cumulative cases per 100K residents. It and most of the deep south passed NY and NJ on this metric some time ago.

Because treatment methodologies and general preparation were much more advanced before Florida reopened, and because the average age of the people infected has gotten way lower and seniors continue to be on lockdown, Florida's cumulative deaths per 100K are (thankfully) much lower than the very densely populated Northeastern states where the initial epicenters erupted. This translates to 10,534 dead Floridians and counting, most of whose deaths could have been avoided had Florida not thrown open the bars in the early summer. 10,534 is approximately equal to the population of the county where I grew up.

If death rates are going to be used as some kind of twisted political scorekeeping tally, I might suggest a review of how Florida and other early reopeners compare to states that were more careful. California, North Carolina, and Washington state, for example, all have significantly lower death rates. The lowest tier of death rate states are all fairly sparsely populated which probably has much more to do with their results than any political decision. I would anticipate that when this all ends and scientists crunch the numbers, population density is going to be highly correlated with infection and death, closely followed by reopening strategies.

Otherwise,

Yeah, but Brad is a shitstain. So you knew nothing like that was forthcoming. Instead we get bitching about "PEARL CLUTCHING" and Richard Spencer tweets, the latter of which Brad is too fucking stupid to understand that the tweet makes the exact opposite of the point he wants to make.

If you aren't celebrating, what exactly is your point? Why do you keep equating NY deaths with the Southern states? Those deaths happen in NY when didn't know how to stop the disease from spreading or how to treat it when it someone caught it. Almost all of those 32000 deaths in FL, TX, GA and AZ have happened since NY got their out break under control and learned a pile of hard lessons on COVID management and individual treatment. NY has just as many young people, just as many college students, just as many bars and restaurants, etc. but they have managed to get their daily new case rate to about 500 per day and their daily number of deaths hasn't exceeded 15 since July 8th. If FL, TX, GA, and AZ had less than 15 deaths a day we'd have 30000 fewer deaths. The governors in those states have been reckless with public health all in the name of having a slightly less crappy economy and try to salvage Trump's presidency.

So much inaction and needless death and Brad just oggles coeds and drops snarky, misinformed talking points. Says a lot about him.

at the risk of delving more deeply into a rabbit hole that probably doesn't need exploration on this particular thread, New York and New Jersey also had their very high measured infections when testing was excruciatingly inadequate (as opposed to...I guess, the very inadequate current state), which understates their known case counts. Youyang Gu, who runs the model I linked to earlier, estimates total infection rate across the population to be pretty close to 20% for each of New York, New Jersey and Florida (20.6% for New York, 20.5% for Florida)

What kind of person actually celebrates and congratulates “only” 32,000 preventable deaths?

If you’re to the point in your political ideology where that’s a valid and natural reaction then you may need to take a step back and reassess.

The same assholes who claim to “never forget” about 9/11 love calling scoreboard about NY COVID deaths.
