not to get too deep on the politics of education on this thread, but Wake County used to have a substantial race-based then socioeconomic-based integration plan that got railroaded by Koch-backed conservatives in the late aughts

From what I understand there are many efforts to redress https://www.wunc.org/post/wake-school-segregation-worsens-push-counter-it but it’s still a colossal problem.

“From what you understand” is a topic which will not require a lengthy discussion. School bussing was incredibly effective here, but like anywhere there are pockets of wealth/inequality and there was opposition to continued bussing. But the public schools are very diverse.

Also, what does that even matter? It’s a dark blue county. And downtown Raleigh is probably the bluest part of the blue county. So my point stands: they’re vandalizing and rioting in the wrong place.

On the other hand, we're seeing way too many situations where it appears that big city police departments in riot gear have the same discipline as the thug security guards you used to see at Grateful Dead concerts at summer Stadium shows.
