Yes, because if these cities only had hard-right GOP mayors in office for the past fifty or so years gutting their social services to lower corporate taxes and taxes for the wealthy, and cutting local regulations to give even more power to slumlords and corporations and developers than they already have, then these cities would be so much better off right now. And best of all, these conservative mayors wouldn't hesitate to send in police heavily armed with military equipment to just blow all these protestors away and smash them for good, amirite?

You're the one who foolishly keeps invoking "Democrats" to refer to rioters and looters (with a *heavy* racial emphasis). No one is convinced. Viewing everything through a partisan lens puts a huge blindspot in your vision. All partisan politics is doing for you is allowing you to blame societies problems on a political party instead of a race or class.
 
it is weird to me that folks can survey the landscape of developed countries and their levels of crime and gun violence and look at the United States -- both it's history and current circumstances -- and come away saying: the solution is to further strip/privatize the government and increase police efforts and punishment, that's what will make things better
