When FiveThirtyEight last issued a U.S. Senate forecast — way back in July — we concluded the race for Senate control was a toss-up. That was a little ahead of the conventional wisdom at the time, which characterized the Democrats as vulnerable but more likely than not to retain the chamber.
Our new forecast goes a half-step further: We think the Republicans are now slight favorites to win at least six seats and capture the chamber. The Democrats’ position has deteriorated somewhat since last summer, with President Obama’s approval ratings down to 42 or 43 percent from an average of about 45 percent before. Furthermore, as compared with 2010 or 2012, the GOP has done a better job of recruiting credible candidates, with some exceptions.

According to Nate Silver the best case for the GOP is picking up 11 seats, getting them to 56. Cruz still claims there's a chance to repeal Obamacare before 2017, but his math's off quite a bit since 56 is well short of the 67 votes needed to override a veto. Ginsburg should announce her retirement since it will be easier for Obama to confirm her replacement now. If the House voted for Obamacare repeal 40+ times in the House, impeachment's got to be high on their agenda in 2015 if they control both chambers and there's been a filibuster reform.

Democrats, you guys suck. Seriously.

Hard to put a positive spin on a steaming turd.

Still, for all the gift wrapping the Dems have done with this election cycle, the GOP is a train wreck and will struggle to capitalize. Boehner, McConnell & Preibus suck.

I can't wait to see Obama and Harry Reid get their haircuts this November. The era of big government is once again over.

The era of big government was bigger under W. We had more government employees and a much bigger national deficit. But don't let little things like facts get in your way.

Oh poor RJ. Open your eyes and see the sarcasm.

He's a RWer and likely believes if the GOP controls the House and Senate that will happen.

Townie, Wrangor is like those guys who believe really terrible movies are actually satires.....well they are after they bomb.

You mean the facts of 17 trillion national debt now and 12 trillion when Obama entered office?

Well deficits are annual measures and have gone down under Obama. Until you run a surplus, you can't reduce the debt.
