Despite his size, Nikita speed allows him to play the two-gap technique when lined up over the center - it effectively makes it so that both of the guards have to keep an eye on him and be prepared for him to shoot either gap against them and frees up the DEs or a blitzing OLB. Moving to a 4-3 requires Nikita to play a one-gap technique and where before the snap the OL would know where the double-team would come from.

Which works okay against finesse spread teams who mostly pass block. Not so much against power running teams who are already coming downfield anyways.

True, but against those teams Nikita doesn't have much success anyway

I think he said Josh Banks we really playing well in practice and they decided he'd be the first DE to spell Thompson and Redding, but it had to be more than that. However, Harris did get several reps against ULM, so maybe he's working his way out of the dog house????
