Iran Nuclear Deal Reached

Fuck diplomacy, We haven't invaded anyone in a while. Let's do that and draft all those who think it's a waste to negotiate with them.

It took Iran less than a week to proclaim the U.S.'s version of what the deal says is bullshit. So we wasted our time, money and goodwill with a number of regional allies. Good work.

You are such a fucking hack.

Sig, it's almost T'Giving. Why are you being so mean to hacks? Even they wouldn't claim DeacMan.

What do you suggest we do?

I certainly don't suggest you do a deal with the Iranians that the Saudi's, most of Congress and the Israeli's all hate. You maintain your sanctions and you do NOT abandon your allies. Let's keep in mind the administration only embraced sanctions after Congress rammed them down the admnistration's throat.

But hey, keep telling yourself this tact will work.

Here's the latest announcement from Iran. http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.aspx?nn=13920905001745 Bluster? A country that appears ready to abandon aspirations for a nuclear bomb? And the enrichment of plutonium isn't going to stop either. http://www.timesofisrael.com/?p=764892 Again, don't waste your time and money and provide them with the opportunity to poke you in the eye.

We are now less than a week from the announced deal. In that time the Iranians have (1) openly said the administration's version of the agreement is complete bullshit, (2) announced they hold ballistic missle technology, and (3) announced they will keep enriching plutonium. All this does is up the ante. They are playing a game of chicken. And they are counting on us blinking first. Pretty scary, quite frankly.

Allies in name only. All we are to Israel is the muscle behind their saber rattling.

After all these years, the idea of any type of peace deal in the Middle East that everybody likes is far fetched. We are just looking for a peace deal that everybody lives with.

We just need to find an exit scenario that works for us. Fuck everyone else.

Foreign policy isn't that simple, something someone as bright as you already knows. When we give Israel air cover we control the narrative of how they behave. When we don't we invite them to act on their own. There are reports of the Saudi's and the Israeli's working together to plan airstrikes on Iran. And that has fuck-all to do with oil. Never mind that foreign policy has fuck-all to do with oil too. The world is going to be a much different place politically over the next 30 years because of advances in how oil can be extracted. That isn't lost on the countries of the Middle East - all of whom know full well that Israel is sitting on massive shale reserves. Fuck-all indeed.

So your suggestion on how to solve the problem is don't do anything.

I certainly don't make the problem worse by handing the Iranian regime a very public victory they can sell back to their people. This is a regime that is extremely unpopular with their own people. And it is also a country with a disproportionate number of young adults in its population. The one thing they have going for them in public opinion is the "peaceful" nuclear program - a point of nationalism. All this agreement has done is emboldened the regime.

You keep the sanctions in place and you dictate the terms for the sanctions to be lifted. You don't cloud the water.
