John Wolford

* Silver lining for Wake Forest: The 24 points scored by the Demon Deacons against Utah State on Saturday were the most against an FBS opponent since Oct. 19 of last year — a span of seven games. It was the second most in a road game against an FBS team since the start of the 2012 season (25 vs. Army on 9/21/13).

The 110 attempts by QB John Wolford are the most by any true freshman in the country (conference-mate Brad Kaaya is second at 75), and while the results haven’t been terrific, he has shown some signs of progress. After a brutal first half against Utah State, Wolford was decent enough in the second half, completing 14-of-31 attempts for 179 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. And, of course, he’s been asked to do all of this while his ground game is averaging 0.8 yards-per-rush. Only SMU has been worse on the ground; David Hale ESPN

We should just call it the PASS/FAIL offense. Either we pass it, or we fail.

I was concerned for Wolford's psyche after the 2nd quarter last week. His 2nd half says a lot about his toughness. If we can protect him, this kid will be really good.

If he can get through this season in one piece, hopefully we can start putting better tools around him next season.

Tanner took his lumps too. I hope that the coaches stay positive. If the finger pointing starts, and solutions aren't tried by the coaches, the team could implode. You'll lose good players as well as the dead wood.

According to TOB, Clawson does not allow Disco Dan/media peeps to talk to Wolford.

God the MSM are such bitter self important entitled vindictive little shits.
How many coaches give the media free access to true freshman starting QB's?

Yeah, it's certainly not an uncommon practice in college football to not allow the media access to true freshman is it?

Such passive aggressive, smart ass comments in that piece.

Personally I'm glad that Clawson restricts access to the frosh and is willing to close practices when he feels the need. Sometimes I think Grobe was too laid back with the access he gave the media and frankly the fans when it came to practices and scrimmages.

Texas A&M didn't allow access to Johnny Manziel as a redshirt freshman until after the regular season and he had to do the awards show tour.

It is being reported that Travis Smith is no longer on the football team.

Are we losing guys that probably need to move on or are we just losing guys (apparently in bunches)?

He's worse than Wolford and Hinton, so this is not a big loss. Problem is we will probably just have 1 scholarship quarterback this spring.

Probably helps firm up Hinton's commitment too. Wasn't he getting some attention from other programs?
