Lobo now RB coach too

I haven't heard anything about Lobo looking for other jobs in a few years. Meanwhile, Lambert took a real bad job.

On paper, coordinator at Wake is better than most FCS jobs but Lobo is delusional if he thinks he'd get a FBS head job. We're in the bottom third to bottom quarter in offense over his tenure. I doubt any program has let one man be so bad for so long.

The biggest takeaway I get from this is that we are minimizing Coach Mitchell's role on the team. Not hard to see the writing on the wall for his future imo.

yup. We must not have felt we had the right guy to replace him this year. It would be nice to get a young, aggressive RB coach on par with Stubblefield and Himey.

Chris Barclay is waiting in the wings.

If we return to cut blocking Lobo might look like a genius. Not that it would be his doing. He'd just luck into some gaping holes. I wouldn't show cut blocking until the Clemson game and then unleash it on the Tigers.

I just don't understand why he continues to get additional duties when he doesn't prove that he's remotely competent at doing anything at his original jobs. Why does he keep getting spread around more and more?

He's a part of the family

Also a picture of Lobo's family is on the official website. Can't really tell if the wifey is hot or Wake Forest hot from the family pickle though.

Let's revisit this article from a month ago after 2 games:

Grobe has also expressed that he would like to establish more of a running game this fall and it seemed natural to have Lobotzke, who is the offensive coordinator, oversee the running backs. Lobotzke coached the fullbacks and tight ends last season and will continue that role this year.

"It makes sense with our offense to have both the fullbacks and the running backs together with Coach Lobo (Lobotzke)," said Grobe. "We will continue to involve all of the coaches in the punt return, punt block and kick return portions of special teams. Coach Mitch (Mitchell) can devote all of his time to working with the specialist and on the quality control aspect of the special teams."

Deacon fans that have visited the wall at the Doc Martin Practice Complex this week may have seen Grobe paying a little more attention in the offensive backfield than in the past.

"I'm not being more hands on, just giving Lobo an extra set of eyes."

Wake is #88 in the nation in rushing with 129.0 ypg, 258 yards on 93 carries (2.8 ypc).

Nice memory. I had forgotten all about Lobo being given yet more responsibility. If this isn't evidence that Grobe is off his rocker, I'm not sure what is.

Developing what? It's not like he's had nothing to do with the failures of our OL, ineffective and barely existent TE, misuse of Bohannon (and Rinfrette before him) at FB, and the decline of the running game. Putting him directly responsible for their development is a huge risk and something we shouldn't be talking about.

This is right on. The only place a guy with Lobo's track record could get promoted or additional duties would be he Federal Government. Every job he has been give has been marked by pure and compete incompetence and failure-- so you, in effect, promote him! What is Grobe thinking?

Cut blocking requires mobile O-Linemen. When the current staff arrived from Ohio, they put the 300+ lb O-Linemen through heck in Spring Practice and made them lose a lot of weight and become mobile so they could cut block. The result is that we averaged over 200+ yards rushing per game for the first few years.

Now we have 300+ lb O-Linemen who don't get a push, don't open many holes and don't pass protect particularly well.

Really the better stat to use for the running game at this point is YPC since we've run the ball more than any other team in the bottom half of the country in rushing yards (despite being 88th in rushing). We're in the bottom 20 in the country in YPC and ran it 39 times last week.

Not surprisingly everything Lobo touches turns to shit.

How is it that you have not been an extra set of eyes up until now? If you're not going to be hands-on as the head coach, isn't being an extra set of eyes the bare minimum requirement?

More importantly, why have you not become more hands-on if you're in the midst of a string of losing seasons?

Yeah. The NCAA changed to a format that made it harder to calculate additional stats and I did bother to search elsewhere.

CFBstats.com is an awesome website for stuff like that. It's my go to for football stats.

I don't think I've checked it lately. Thanks for the heads up. Of course nowadays I don't need stats to try convince people that Lobo sucks.

Completely agree. At some point this year, probably soon and most likely after the next offensive debacle - so very soon, I'm going to do an in-depth statistical analysis of Lobo at Wake. I've been too lazy to work on it lately because it will require using a few sources to get all the stats going back to the beginning of his tenure, but I think it will be worth it. Even for as bad as people think he's been, I actually think he has been worse.

I swear he is getting worse. The last several games have been just dreadful.

Yeah. That's what I've found in the past. I've done quite a bit of analysis that I've posted here if you want to use it. I'd be happy to help if you'd like.

I think it shows how patient and pathetic or fanbase is that it's taken this long for people to get this angry. Seeing former pro-Lobo stalwarts like Bill George and mebanedeac post their frustration is an indication that we are reaching a tipping point with the broader fanbase. I look forward to Pilchard's explanation of how Lobo's offense just now started to fall off.

Yeah part of it is gonna be going back through here and fishing up some stats. I wrote an article the weekend of the Vandy game a couple years back when we went 3-9 that had all the stats in there from that point.

Since Lobo is so familiar with so many different offenses, it only seems natural that he start coaching the defense as well.
