• Welcome to OGBoards 10.0, keep in mind that we will be making LOTS of changes to smooth out the experience here and make it as close as possible functionally to the old software, but feel free to drop suggestions or requests in the Tech Support subforum!

If "Medicare for all" truly means "all", the average age of the work force and the number of payers into social security and other programs would plummet. There are tons of us in their late 50's early 60's who would retire today were it not for the cost of private insurance outside of an employer plan.

...and that’s a good thing? You should be able to retire in your 60s if you’re otherwise prepared to retire in your 60s.

In Kansas City, Food Not Bombs asked some grocery stores if they could take their discarded food. The grocery stores "donate" it to a for-profit composting company.

Which would create more jobs for younger people and increase economic mobility throughout the workforce. And people of all ages would be more free to start their own businesses and life a lifestyle they want to live.

I fail to see the downside for people in their late 50s who could quit their 9 to 5 desk job and follow their passion.

Let’s not go nuts here. I doubt very much there are “tons” of folks in their late 50s and early 60s that are truly prepared to retire but for healthcare costs. Boomers around that age have an average of like $125k-$150k saved for retirement according to googling a couple articles. And I bet the median is way lower than that.

And if they’re truly worried about SS contributions, the government could always raise the wage base limit subject to the social security tax.

SwissChaletFan, are you still pigging out on carbs? Or are you just ignoring this because you're not actually interested in substantive discussion?

I'm really not interested in discussing anything with you. Every post that you have ever made to me included a personal insult.

Weird. I went back 6 months and only found one post to you (other than the preceding two on this thread), and it did not include a personal insult. Well, if you're not going to discuss anything with me, enjoy your remaining years! Although I don't know of anyone who has gotten to their death bed and said, "I wish I'd spent more time trolling the political ideology of strangers on the internet message board of a college I resent."

It would have been cool if you were shot in that Maryland newspaper shooting

I mean, this is just completely classless, regardless of who it's directed at. Unsurprising that no one seemingly batted an eye. On any of the old boards, or when the OGBoards actually had mods, that would have certainly gotten the banhammer.

"35 to 45" averages out to 40. What percentage of the posters would you say are at least 40 years old and married with children? I agree with you that the average age on The Tunnels is likely higher than on the Sports boards, but I would guess that the percentage who are 40+ and married with children would be less than 20%...and probably considerably less than that.

I don't think there are probably very many students posting on The Tunnels...….but I think there are a hell of a lot of grads between the ages of, say, 24 & 34....more than half of which are probably not married.

You are assuming either a uniform or a normal distribution of the ages. How at your age with your level of education do you not know that the mid point of a range of of numbers does not necessarily equal the average of some numbers in that age range?
