Love the BlueShirts getting Trochek, Can’t make Carolina fans happy…..

Johnny Hockey to Columbus??????

WTF!!!!! Now sign Laine and make this interesting.

I would say Canes never value dudes getting up there in age though the dudes we brought in today contradict that a bit obviously.

Still makes sense, dudes who can contribute on the PP and put the puck in the net, the most obvious of needs. And essentially like signing FAs since we didn't give up much -- unless the goalie we sent to SJ turns into a stud, but we have a couple younger options there including Kochetkov obviously

Lots of short commitments from the Canes too. We’re not committing to old dudes long term. And for what we gave up, it makes sense to take those deals. It’s be a great start to the offseason.

Me to any other fan base that wants to pry Eric Tulsky from us:

Dundon has done a good job valuing the personnel who are actually important, imagine he'll do/is doing what it takes to keep him round

Wow, I completely tuned out on NHL and the Canes for the last week and just saw we traded for Pacioretty, Coghlan, and Burns.

I really like those moves. A net loss on Defense, but really like Burns as a replacement for DeAngelo.

Upset to lose Trocheck, I really liked him and Tony D....IDK why...maybe because they're so dreamy lol.

And I really fucking hate that he went to NYR. Fuck them. But glad we didn't have to give him that contract.

I really like what we've done so far, and have been getting A's from all the ESPN guys for our moves.

And I did some totaling/research for our moves so far, in case anyone wants to know. I might put this in a spreadsheet to make it look better, but here it is nonetheless.

While looking at the AHL stuff, I was amazed to see how well our AHL team (Chicago Wolves) did this year. They won the Calder Cup (Playoffs), and had:

2 of the Top 3 Point Scorers in the regular season:
1. C Andrew Poturalski (71GP / 28G / 73A / 101PT)
----
3. RW Stefan Noesen (70GP / 48 G / 37A / 85PT)

As well as the Top 4 Point Scorers in the Playoffs:
1. LW Josh Leivo (18GP / 15G / 14A / 29PT)
2. RW Stefan Noesen (18GP / 9G / 16A / 25PT)
3. C Jack Drury (18GP / 9G / 15A / 24PT)
4. C Andrew Poturalski (18GP / 8G / 15A / 23PT)

Just great, great, great stuff going forward! Can't wait to see how our young guns come into the team!

The Cup is in Carolina! Very cool move by Bednar.

Man, you gotta feel for the Flames. Tkachuk has informed them that he won't be signing with them long term, so he'll be traded in the next few days. Just brutal for them.

Wonder which Metro team he ends up on? :)

Are there any Red Wings fans here?

I really like what they've done this offseason.

Detroit Red Wings
Key players added: D Ben Chiarot, C Andrew Copp, G Ville Husso, F Dominik Kubalik, F David Perron, D Olli Maatta

A starting goalie, Husso, a point-per-game player in Perron (p-p-p-p-powerful!), and a potential 20 goal scoring player (when healthy and playing a full season) in Copp. Plenty of playoff experience and Stanley Cup winners as well.

ESPN has Ottawa (A+), Carolina (A), Detroit (A), Edmonton (A), Pittsburgh (A), Columbus (A-), and New Jersey (A-) with A grades for this offseason.

Hurricanes have lost the most in terms of key losses, so that sucks, but I think Pacioretty and Burns are just great pickups.

Overall grade: A

The Hurricanes acquired Burns from the San Jose Sharks with a salary retained cap hit of $5.28 million for the next three seasons, or $280,000 more than the cap number the Flyers have on DeAngelo for the next two seasons before he hits unrestricted free agency. Burns is an older player, obviously; but if he's reenergized by playing on a Cup contender, we'd argue he's a better player, especially as a power-play quarterback.

Burns cost the Hurricanes Lorentz, goalie prospect Eetu Mäkiniemi and a conditional third-rounder. Pacioretty and Coghlan cost them ... nothing, as it was the latest in a series of salary sacrifices by the Vegas Golden Knights. Burns replaces something they already had. Pacioretty provides something they desperately needed: a pure finisher who excels offensively in the playoffs. In the last three seasons the Golden Knights made the postseason, only Brad Marchand had a higher goals per 60 minutes average than Pacioretty among left wings.

:koolaid:

I have faith in the Yzerplan, but it is hard to get excited about Husso after I thought Nedeljkovic was a slam dunk (and we saw how that went). Also, swapping Blashill for a Tampa assistant isn't terribly inspiring when Barry Trotz was RIGHT THERE.

Looks like Nino signed with Nashville. Sucks Canes lose both Trocheck and Nino. Hope Drury, KK, and Necas (assuming he sticks around) can fill those voids.

I cannot believe we wouldn't pay Nino $8MM over two years. Seems like a no brainer. And a huge failure.
