Both Currie and Cunningham allegedly want to continue playing each other whether as a conference game (2022 I think) or another non-con. Limited opportunities to do so through 2026. Not a huge fan of LIberty or VMI, but there are some other good noncon opponents on there. I hope Currie pushes to get UNC on there again.

Have no idea when WF re-upped with Army, and don't mind playing them sporadically, but don't understand why Army is our most regularly scheduled OOC opponent over the next decade.

Army is a pain the arse to prepare for; even though they are competitive, WF gets little credit for playing Army; the game creates no buzz for the program; even with the Wakeyleaks controversy, Army will never be any kind of rival. Wish WF would drop 3 of the upcoming Army games to schedule other, more compelling opponents. Would like to see WF schedule a home and home with SC. WF recruits heavily in SC; the games would be fun and competitive; the game would create at least regional interest and draw big crowds.

If WF is going to schedule OOC games against ACC teams, would like to see WF work in games against UVA and VT for the same reasons as above.

Agree that I don't like playing Army so frequently, but one positive is that we do see a little bump in home attendance due to a decent number of vets who attend the game. And IIRC a lot of that comes from ticket deals that the athletic dept. offers our veterans, but regardless of what they paid (if anything), it's nice to have a decent crowd of visitors w/o their coming from an obnoxious, entitled fan base like the Holes, VT, etc.

What's the fun in beating teams with polite fan bases ? This isn't golf.

Fuck Army. They play couple good teams. Feast on bullshit. Make a bowl. They aren't worthy. Clemson ain't gonna play them. Be Clemson.

I'd like to see a home-and-home with South Carolina in 2021 and 2024. We still both have openings for those seasons. They're an old ACC foe and we played regularly until they joined the SEC in 1991. Easy drive to each others schools and would fill the stadiums.

Yeah but not at the expense of playing UNC.

Should just do away with divisions and have every school play three guaranteed opponents every year, ensuring all the NC schools play each other annually. Play everyone else once every two years on a rotational basis.

Two best conference records (with CFP rankings or whatever as a tiebreaker) go to the ACCCG

I remember them playing here back in the 80's. Never seen a pig on a spit for tailgating before. They easily outnumbered us in our stadium, and beat us easily as well. That was then. Different story on the field now.

would love to play the Gamecocks but highly doubt they want to play WF for a similar reason to why we don't want Army - very little upside to them to play us and they can very easily lose (there is a regional interest there but I'm sure they consider themselves to be above WF as a program)

plus, with Clemson on the schedule every year and hoping to go 4-4 in the SEC, they need 3 OOC easy wins and appear to have scheduled that way absent a neutral site series with uNC

South Carolina shouldn't be feeling that superior to us. Nice run under Spurrier but other than that they've largely been a doormat

I fucking hate us playing Army, Navy, or any team that runs the wishbone offense.

Agreed.

You guys are missing the point. Although I personally view the nation's military as a necessary evil, service academy football is, IMO, what college football should be all about, as opposed to a bunch of future pros playing at Clemson and Alabama. It is a privilege to play the academies and to watch the corps marching on the field and the playing of the respective schools' alma maters at game's end. If you have never been to an Army-Navy game, please go once just to see the pageantry. These schools are much like Wake in size and academic ideals.

We don't need to be playing the Gamecocks. They left the ACC because Pepsodent Paul Dietzel wanted to build a national champion without any academic impingements. Ironically, the powerhouse developed down the road at Clemson. And the move to the SEC arguably killed USC's basketball program despite a recent Final Four appearance.

Wake will continue to play Army because it gives the admin and DC big shots a fall boat trip up the Hudson.
