Official 2018-19 NBA Season Thread - NBA Finals Raptors Win #WeTheNorth

starters would be Pope, Hart, Lebron, AD, and Chandler?

bench would be trash

could see them grabbing Melo

It's amazing how much more the Lakers are willing to give up for AD than they were Kawhi.

Not really. We didn’t know if Kawhi’s injury was legit and they were angling for Lebron.

Lakers offering Ball, Kuzma, Ingram, Rondo, Stephenson, Beasley, 2 1st rd picks for AD and Soloman Hill (Cap relief for pels)

Hell of a lot to give up but I think it's a good deal for both sides.

Is that their starting 5 sans LeBron? I'd make them throw in the big Euro as well since they are willing to give up everything. That team, plus reuniting all of them with Randle, is going to suck, but yeah the Pelicans can't turn down an entire mediocre team for a guy who is going to walk anyway.

A lot of mediocrity and scrubs. That offer sucks for the Pels. What is the end-game for the Pels in that deal? A 7 seed at best in 3 years? Maybe?
Trade value & potential of those prospects is pretty good. AD is walking either way, and its going to be a circus until he is gone.

The Lakers are giving up their young core and two picks. Can’t imagine the Pelicans can get better than that.

And 2 picks that won't pan out to be shit when their position is determined by Lebron and AD playing together.

If that trade happens, Randle is going to be pissed. He tried to get away from these guys ... It is not a trash trade for the Pelicans. Kuzma is a legit player and potentially a future NBA all-star in the East.

Ball would be described as the same if not for his asshole Dad. So that is two potential all-stars plus two picks. You could likely trade Ingram and one of those picks for a better player - Jimmy Butler perhaps.

It is not a bad trade for the Pelicans IMO. Plus, the Pelicans may have figured out they simply need to be built like NBA teams of old - thinking the GP3 Sonics that had 8 legit NBA starters. This could be pretty fun:

Ingram (Butler)
Randle
Okafor until they draft someone
Holiday
Ball

With a bench of supersub Kuzma, Elfrid Payton, draft pick, draft pick for Mirotic, Frank Jackson

Hadn't Lebron commited to the Lakers by time the Kawhi trade happened?

I think it's more of the Lakers realize that the young core of players aren't going to develop enough in the next three seasons to be good enough to win a title with Lebron. Lebron needs AD now. If they get AD now that's three playoff runs Lakers will have Lebron and AD together before Lebron turns 37 and his window starts closing.

Kawhi was on the block before the trade deadline.

I think Lebron just doesn’t like to play with young players. That was true when he was a young player.

LOL @ Kuzma being a sub on the pelicans

Well, Kuzma was a really good productive sub last year for the Lakers. Randle not so much. There are plenty of "subs" over the years that have been borderline HOF players: Vinnie Johnson, Manu, Lou Williams the last several years. Hell, Harden was a sub on the Thunder when he was there ... Anyway, LOL at you wanting to LOL at nitpicky shit.

That assumes they could put together the ancillary pieces quick enough to make the playoffs this year after trading away basically the whole team other than Lebron. They'll get the usual buyout guys to go there sucking Lebron's nuts, but the Pelicans are trash with a significantly better supporting cast around AD than the Lakers could put together at this point assuming the trade is as rumored. As good as Lebron and AD are, I don't think you can play 2 on 5 in the Western Conference with much success. It is a different situation than Lebron compiling crap Cavs teams and waltzing through the then-weak East.

There was also some talk that Kawhi wasn't very excited to play with Lebron. But I do think Magic isn't as high on the young core now as he was last summer.

Why would he be? Ingram is still a maybe in terms of ever being a good player. Ball is a no. Kuzma is empty calories.

Hard to believe the Lakers had 3 #2 picks and came up with Russell/Ingram/Ball. Ingram is the only one of those 3 who was probably the correct pick.

Russell is having a crazy good year though. The job Atikinson is doing in Brooklyn with literally a team of cast offs + three late 1st round picks Jarrett Allen, Rondale Hollis-Jefferson, Carl Levert (inj), and rookie Korucs is pretty remarkable. Joe Harris (Cle) and Russell (Lakers) are their two best players. And they're gonna make the playoffs. Joe Harris is seriously balling, sneaky good. He found no PT at Cleveland with Lebron there.
