Official 2022-23 College Basketball Thread: UCONN - One Shining Moment

In addition to WF v. Fairfield, there are a ton of NCAA BB games today and tonight (the season opens with Mississippi Valley State at Baylor at noon today)

Some things to note about this season:

The number of D-1 teams has grown to 363.

The 5 new D-1 teams are:

Lindenwood (its in Mo.; the will play in the Mo Valley Conference)
Queens College (its in Charlotte; they will play in the ASUN); think the Queens coach, just got pinched for a DUI).
Southern Indiana (they are in... Southern Indiana and they will play in the OVC)
Stonehill (in Mass.; they will play in the Northeast Conference)
Texas A&M- Commerce (they will play in the Southland)

Also 26 teams changed conferences). Most are teams going from one crappy conference to another, but here are arguably the most relevant:

Belmont: from the OVC to MVC (2nd change in 4 years)
Hampton: from the Big South to Colonial (2nd change in 3 years)
JMU: CAA to Sun Belt
Loyola Chicago: MVC to A-10
Marshall: C-USA to Sun Belt
Murray State: OVC to MVCC
NC A&T: Big South to CAA (2nd change in 3 years)
Old Dominion: C USA to Sun Belt
S. Miss; C-USA to Sun Belt

All 25 ranked teams have a game today as the '22-23 NCAA Basketball season tips off.

Zero ranked on ranked matchups, however.

First game is 12pm as #5 Baylor opens up with Mississippi Valley State.

Most interesting game is probably Memphis @ Vanderbilt (8pm)... Neither team is ranked, but it should be a good matchup relative to the rest of the schedule.

In the ACC, all teams (aside from ND & Louisville) are in action and expected to win by double-digits.

The closest expected matchup is actually Fairfield @ Wake Forest, where the spread is Wake Forest -11.5.

Austin Peay @ NC State could also be a decent game.

Smallest spreads for tonight in the Top 25?

Auburn -10 vs. George Mason
Villanova -15 vs. LaSalle
Michigan -15.5 vs. Purdue Ft. Wayne
Duke -15.5 vs. Jacksonville
Alabama -16 vs. Longwood

Everything else has a line of 20+

Like George Mason a little bit. Auburn had a ton of attrition and Mason is a solid mid-major. Also, like the Vandy-Memphis under 139.5. Will go against L'ville in every game early.

Pilch, you on Baylor -44 to kick things off at noon?

Tempted (that would be the side I would play), but I haven't broken down the SWAC teams. Pass. Baylor is loaded again.

Baylor won by 64!

40 point halftime lead.

Imagine taking a team -44 and not sweating much at all the entire game.

Duke plays Jacksonville tonight in Scheyer's debut. Jacksonville is a sneaky tough team, and Duke has injury issues:

Is the wolpfack that much better this season or is Austin Peay really bad??

State will have the best player on the court against most teams they face. Terquavion is a borderline lottery pick.

didn't realize mike white went to uga
