Official 2022-23 College Basketball Thread: UCONN - One Shining Moment

If the committee goes and gives 5 bids to the Mountain West, that will hurt our chances. They got 4 bids last year and quickly went 0-4.
Hard to convince me they are a deserving league. They collect Quad 1 wins by beating each other and do little in the OOC.

To be fair, you probably haven't watched all of those teams in the Mountain West all season, so you have no idea how good or bad they are.

Certainly possible. Flip side is Pitt and Clemson aren’t likely to be favored in a first round matchup and they’re nominal top 4 ACC teams
Clemson and Pitt would be first round dogs to all 5 Mountain West teams fighting for a bid and I’d feel good taking the points in every single one of them.

On a personal note, Massachusetts legalized sports betting and the Boston-adjacent sportsbook is open for business. Already have the Thursday for the Tourney blocked off from work. Gonna go binge on basketball and make some #profits thanks to our lord and savior KenPom

I’m game for a Mountain West / ACC Challenge next year. Let’s play it at a neutral site. Maybe Jerry World since they never have NFL playoff games there.

Think the ACC is down this year. Look at the most recent mock 2023 NBA draft.

ACC has two projected first round picks, and one of them just started playing a couple of week ago: Filipowski and Baba Miller.

The SEC has 6, Big 10 has 5, Big 12 has 3 and the Big East has 3 (and the ACC has more teams than all of those conferences). Just don't think the ACC is very strong this year. Miami could make a run, and may be UVA could win a couple of games, but it looks to me like the ACC is not as good as the other power conferences this season.

Maybe they are all awesome, but would hope last year’s 0-4 performance would impact the thought process. Boise has lost to South Dakota St, Charlotte, and Santa Clara. They also would be favored tonight at the Joel if they played Wake. I’d feel good about Wake’s chances.

You going to Encore or are there other places up and running now?

Gonna do Encore. I know Springfield is up and running as well and maybe like Plainsfield? A couple spots applied but didn't get approved because their plan didn't meet the standard. Mobile betting should be live in the next couple months but right now they have a solid sportsbook open, plus kiosks around the casino. I bet they have a solid welcome deal for the first few months as well so maybe we can get some free bets fired off too while we crush Bud Lights and watch Wake romp.

You haven't been gambling already? I made money last year fading the MWC in the first round and plan to do so again.

Bud light probably a better deal than the house red

I mean I've been gambling off the books, but it's much easier to just place a bet where I live and cash out instead of waiting to get $$$ built up and transferred from an off shore site. IRS if you're reading this, this is merely a fiction

Imo a path to the bid is clear but challenging.

5-1 the rest of the way means we finish the regular season at 13-7 in the ACC with likely 3 Q1 wins. That's probably a tournament resume this year.
4-2 the rest of the way means we finish the regular season at 12-8 in the ACC with likely 2 Q1 wins. That itself isn't a tournament resume and would require us getting another Q1 W in GSO, which would likely need to come in a quarterfinal.

Anything less than 4-2 and the only way we make it would be winning the ACCT.

I watched the Nevada-New Mexico game on FS1 after getting home from Winston last night (too wound up to sleep). Announcers mentioned at least once during every four minute stretch the Mountain West’s NET rating. I have watched a decent amount of games from that conference this year. Top teams are decent, but that league isn’t in the same universe as the ACC, regardless of what the dumb metrics say.

Fair enough. I'm heard horror of those offshore sites. I just use a bookie. Venmo payments each Monday, easy.

I think even the first scenario requires validation with an ACCT win, but that would be on the bubble even with a loss. I think we need 22 wins to feel safe on Selection Sunday

I really feel like all of these pundits who still think UNC is a lock to make the NCAAs haven't looked at the ACC standings or "nitty gritty" type resume comparisons.

If they finish by themselves in 8th or 9th place in the ACC with (maybe) 1 Q1 win, it's going to be really hard to make the argument that they belong in the field.

Joe Lunardi and Jay Bilas said WF was in the tournament right before last year’s ACC tournament.

So…the pundits don’t know what the hell they are talking about.

Lunardi in particularly is one of the very least accurate bracketologists year after year.

yep and they'll all lose early and then the ACC teams will "miraculously" go on deep runs like last year
