Ongoing gun violence/injury thread

More people died at that school than have died from Ebola in America. When can we expect the same outrage and demand for action on gun violence?

Ebola doesn't kill people. People with Ebola kill people.

Yes, that's exactly what I was implying....and yeah, I think custom gunsmiths would risk their lives and careers to convert a firearm from semi to auto...and yeah, I forgot that attempting to have any sort of discussion with you about firearms is stupid.

I'm deleting my previous post so that the focus stays on Ted Nugent being a douche.

Maybe you should not project what you would do onto other people.

Yes. The only way to stop a pissed off 14 year old with a gun is a few old men hanging around a school with guns.

Washington State school shooting: Second teenage girl shot by Jaylen Fryberg dies

Erick Cervantes, a student who called 911 during the attack, told KIRO-TV, the shooting only stopped when a teacher, Megan Silberberger, grabbed Fryberg’s arm and he shot himself.

Wow...

Teacher 'prevented massacre' at US high school by confronting teenage gunman

"She heard the gunshots first and she came in running through the door, right next to it.

"It wasn't [a] wrestle. She just grabbed his arm, and it lasted like two seconds, and I heard another shot."

I don't know how much she makes, but I think she deserves a raise.

I ask this seriously, are there people out there who honestly believe that America's extremely high incidence rate of assault with a gun is not due to the large number of guns? Or do these people just think that their right to carry a gun should outweigh the extremely negative consequences of having half your population armed?

I'm not even talking about constitutional rights or anything, just curious about the two statements above.

I'm guessing it's more complicated that that. I think to one extent we've gone too far in terms of reversing things. Guns have become so prevalent and protected that if we were to hypothetically ban all guns tomorrow that the sentiment of a large part of the law abiding population would argue that making guns illegal would only serve to endanger those that wouldn't use a gun illegally anyway (criminals gonna criminal, or something like that). So yes, while I can't imagine anyone would honestly think that the large number of guns in the US doesn't lead to a higher incidence rate of assault with a gun, I think those that are pro-gun will not accept the notion that the only solution then is to take away their guns.

I do think there is a pretty substantial group of Americans who (a) don't think or care much about how things are in other countries, and (b) if they are presented with this kind of evidence, would generally argue that the US is "just different" from those countries because we have more illegal immigrants or more drugs or more violent video games or more black people or whatever their non-gun scapegoat of choice might be.

It is similar to the people who are in complete denial that other countries do health care or education better and more cost-effectively than America. Those durn commie pinko Euro-socialists CAN'T be doing anything better than 'Murica, so there must be some other explanation, whether or not there is any factual support whatsoever for that other explanation.

I am related to many such people.

Excellent post

Offered without comment, but I'm going to add a comment...lol

So white people aren't really defending themselves with their guns. Interesting.
