Ongoing NC GOP debacle thread

Taking public school lunch money and giving it to charter schools that don't provide lunch. Bus money to schools that don't provide buses.

"Traditional public schools share funding with charter schools based on enrollment numbers. But some public school funding is kept separate from the money that’s split with charters. Under the new Senate bill, public schools would have to share additional federal funding, gifts and grants, sales tax revenues and other funding."

Didn't get past the House. http://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/article37073037.html

Who gives a shit if they don't provide lunch or busses if they don't need to provide lunch or busses? Why should a kid at a public charter school get allocated less money than a kid at a traditional public school?

Because they don't need the money to provide lunch and buses. I thought you were for responsible spending

The kids and parents who need busing and lunches are the ones who give a shit. What the fuck kind of school takes the money meant to provide those services and then doesn't provide those services? I realize this didn't pass, but what the fuck are legislators thinking trying to pass this shit in the first place?

Let's see. How about we set up one school that doesn't provide transportation and food and one that does, and give both of them equal money. One gets to spend that money on better teachers and computers and furniture and books, and the other has to spend it on maintaining a bus fleet and a cafeteria. Now let's wait and see which one the poors without cars and money to buy food "choose", and which one the wealthier people with two+ cars and plenty of time and money to pack little Cody's lunch choose. Bingo, economic (and therefore, racial) segregation mission accomplished!

I'm not categorically anti-charter, but stuff like this where they are blatantly setting it up so that poor people can't access the charter schools is really despicable.

the kind specifically designed to cater to people with cars and food budgets and to exclude those without. AKA, thinly disguised private schools taking taxpayer dollars.

The money is based on the number of kids, so the money should follow the kid. What the fuck kind of school would keep money allocated for kids that don't go there?

So again, we would rather force all of the public school students to be worse off because some are going to be worse off. LCD at its finest! Better for all to fail so that some can't succeed, right?

So you're in favor of bullying the poor kids and taking their lunch money.

If the money is set aside for lunch, spend it on lunch. If the money is set aside for buses, spend it on buses.

It's not their lunch money, it is the lunch money of the kids who left. The ones staying in the school are keeping their lunch money, but why do they get to take the other kids' as well?

You realize that not every school in the same system receives the same amount of money per pupil in the first place for a multitude of reasons, right ?

Of course. But this particular money being discussed in this particular bill is allocated on a per pupil basis. So please explain to me why a school, that sucks hence why its students are leaving if they are lucky enough to win a charter lottery, should get to keep the money allocated to the students that left, instead of that money following those students for their benefit. But no, let's continue to encourage failure. Run your students off by sucking, fuck 'em, you get to keep their money! Why not run everyone off while you're at it? Then you'll have a damn good bus and some sweet lunches! Won't educate worth shit, but dat bus and dat lunch doe.

Charters can get the same amount of funding when they are required to adhere to the same regulations.

But these are the same regulations that, in your opinion, hinder teachers and are a primary reason why traditional public schools are failing, right? So why do you want to double down on the failure? Failure for everyone is how we measure public school success in today's liberal mind. If everyone gets as shitty an education as our worst schools, then we've achieved our goals and can all go home.

"No child left behind" wasn't a liberal plan.
