Ongoing NC GOP debacle thread

Test scores are a product of the students so teachers are going to be angling to teach the best students not the students who need the most help.

I assume the privates and charters are already planning to make their move into these communities.

Religious schools are just grooming grounds for producing republican voting sheeple and the sweet sweet money they tithe so god can send his most holy followers on vacations, car shopping sprees, private planes ! !

"House Republicans set up new rules for their chamber that will allow the speaker to call for a vote to override Gov. Roy Cooper's vetoes without notice." https://www.wral.com/nc-house-republicans-scrap-rule-on-veto-override-votes/20667372/ Nothing says open and representative government like being able to pass a law because one person is in the bathroom.
They've been doing stuff like this for a long while. When Democrat Bev Perdue was NC governor over a decade ago, the GOP state legislature majority held surprise votes at midnight to override her vetoes of several bills, breaking an agreement they had made with Democrats in the legislature. It's what they do - and have been doing - in NC state government for at least a decade.

"The day's veto session was limited by the state constitution to consideration of Perdue’s veto of Senate Bill 9, the Racial Justice Act repeal. The Senate overrode that veto handily. But the House failed to muster the needed Democratic votes, so the measure was sent to a committee for further study. House Republicans and Democrats reportedly agreed that S9 would be the only bill debated in the special veto session. But GOP leaders reneged on the deal, opting instead to amend an adjournment resolution to call themselves back into yet another special session after midnight to take up other veto overrides. The move wasn’t confirmed by GOP leaders till 11:15 pm. The surprise session was scheduled for 12:45am, just 90 minutes later. House Democrats, already in the minority, tried but failed to derail the gambit, calling out Republicans for failing to give public notice that other bills would be taken up."

So NC Democrats should know it's coming. They shouldn't get outhustled and should run on transparency and stopping dirty tricks by NC Pubs.

Sure, but in a good number of the red districts in NC, people would rather shoot a Dem than vote for one. It doesn't matter what platform you run on or how bad the opposition is, between the "own the libs" rural mentality and the way the state is gerrymandered.

No question. It’s a long term project to claw back a gerrymandered state.

NC GOP introduced bills yesterday to prohibit gender affirming care and their own “Don’t Say Gay” bill:

Don’t say gay

Transphobic Bill
The GOP gained several seats in the state legislature last November, and they only need to win over one Democrat in the General Assembly to override Cooper's vetoes. From reading the article it sounds like GOP legislative leaders believe they might be able to get one Democrat to support these bills and thus render Cooper's vetoes irrelevant.

republicans really are hateful trash people.*

* this includes people that "won't vote at all" against other republicans to help put an end to all their evil bs.

it is amazing that the state that voted for Obama in 08 and has had a pretty good Dem gov in Cooper for the last 6 years is this close to going full crazy town, especially if fucking Mark Robinson is our next governor.

Really disappointed in Josh Stein for not doing anything regarding Mark Meadows' "voting" from the trailer in WNC.

who's ready for the Select Committee on the WEAPONIZATION of the Federal Government? How was that Twitter handle available still?

I like how their Twitter header image looks like what you'd use to drop a bomb on the White House

Step one: weaponize a committee.
