Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

it argues that most people are in the middle, left and right

but go on

most humans just like to root for a team and the find little tendrils of commonality to grab onto. that's it. in the teeming masses, there is some small percentage of True Believers, but most people just want to watch the Super Bowl and yell at the TV, even if they don't care about either team.

That's why Republicans and especially Trump win. They get it: you want power? give them a good show and something to cheer for.

Middle of what? That entire study is about political correctness, and it shows that wealthy white college grads are the MOST politically correct.

the article is about exhaustion of americans with politics and polarized yelling at each other.

The middle of 25% traditional and devote conservatives and 8% progressive activists. The M bros represent at best 8% of people, and certainly not mainstream Americans, which are the 66% that are fatigued with polarize national conversation and willingness to be flexible in their political views, ie the ITCs of the world.

Sorry but this is a bad conclusion from a study based off people's views on political correctness.

But since the survey question did not define political correctness for respondents, we cannot be sure what, exactly, the 80 percent of Americans who regard it as a problem have in mind.

I am an activist, yes. But I also advocate for a kind of politics that tries to reach those people disenfranchised by both mainstream parties. You are conflating their lack of interest in traditional politics with a political centrist ideology. The DSA strategy is to reach mainstream americans. I don't know about ITC, but Chris and other defenders of centrism, just want to yell at one side to vote harder.

We all use terms like "politically correct," "liberal," and "progressive" in different ways. It seems really problematic to make any kind argument on those terms without defining them.

the DSA's plan is to tell mainstream americans that their conception of what it means to be an American is not just wrong, it's basically evil, but vote for us! and you wonder how Trump can win by calling women Horseface and committing tax fraud

yes that is our plan. good summation.

This is a really dumb take because CENTRISM LOST TO DONALD TRUMP. But let's just bring in even more centrism with a Biden/Tester ticket and "vote for us!"

no, im feeling particularly nihilistic because I genuinely don't think a centrist or leftist agenda has a legitimate shot now that the Right has figured out how to game the system

That's fair. My argument is that you can't conflate opposition to a vague idea of "political correctness" with centrist political ideology. Political polarization is not supposed to be enjoyable, arguing about shit is not the goal, its part of the process. That's like asking meat eaters if they like shooting cows in the head with a bolt gun, of course not, they still eat burgers though. "Can't you just compromise with the cows, surely they will give you some of their flesh willingly".
