Political Compass

Wait a couple years. You may become more conservative when it comes to business and money matters. Don't worry, it shouldn't affect your liberalism in social matters.
Then he'll be an "extreme right" libertarian!

far far right of you or center? like bdz said, far far right is hitler

He is slightly, very slightly to the left of Mussolini.

What most people refuse to realize is the extreme left and extreme right actually meet. It's not a line. It's a circle.

It's just as ridiculous when you say it.

What are the practical differences between extreme fascism and extreme socialism? They have substantive theoretical differences but they don't have very many differences in practice. Both of these ideologies have nationalism and central control within a concentrated cult of personality as a major tenet

Russia under Stalin and Italy under Mussolini don't have very prevalent differences do they?

Food, climate and language. Beyond that, nothing worth fighting about.

well, no true scotsman but, without being a polysci expert, i'm not sure Stalinism really counts as socialism

True it had a decent number of capitalistic tendencies. Is there a drastic difference between Lenin's Russia and Mussolini's Italy? I don't know the answer to that, just curious.

I don't either, but they do look the same on paper.

except in soviet union, trains make mussolini run on time

I thought we were in America in 2014. I don't see a Green Tea Party starting up anytime soon.

RJ, you say this whenever one of these threads come up. I wouldn't be surprised if you said it earlier in this thread somewhere.

FWIW, I'm not disagreeing. That's how it was taught to me at Wake as well.

True. On this board, I think the most "black and white" people tend to be the true believers on the right and I do tend to spend more time deconstructing their talking points.

When I was younger, it seemed to me that the Democrats were pie in the sky idealists with no idea how the world actually works. Fast forward 10 years plus the Tea Party, and it seems to me now that on the whole, it's the Republicans who insist on unrealistic and unachievable solutions and demand ideological purity over practicality. Maybe I've changed but I think the political parties have changed too.

The left is ramping up the propaganda too. I see some of the stuff that the Other 98% and some of the other left-websites post on facebook and just shake my head. Every rich person and corporation is evil.

Geez, beatrix. Based on what you quoted, I thought I was going to see a picture with a pithy quote.

Didn't want to go all Romney on you with 'politics of envy' commentary... figured I'd let you draw your own conclusions.
