It was, although I suspect that Putin with his letter probably spoke to more people in America than McCain did with his letter in Russia.

To me the most interesting aspect of these letters is that Putin showed considerably more sophistication and knowledge about American politics than previous Russian leaders have. Give him credit there, although beneath that veneer of sophistication and pr, he's still a KGB thug at heart. He's just cleverer than most KGB thugs.

What do you think? This would certainly be a first for a former KGB officer, and he could never do it without the help of Barack Obama.
