Retired US Soccer / World Cup Thread (RIP)

Weah is in with the U-20s, no sign of Sargent, so expect him on the Gold Cup roster

The Sargent omission is pretty eye opening. Maybe they decided he'd gotten all he could out of youth world cups and it's time for him to stick with the senior team.

Dat midfield is nasty. Guessing a few guys were omitted due to club obligations. The touranent starts early this year. Sargent still has two more club games, but I don’t think he’s come off the bench in a month. He’s also likely to play in the Gold Cup.

The guys who are getting regular first team minutes (Weah, Pomykal, Durkin) are all being released because there’s interest abroad and their clubs want to raise their transfer value. U20 WC is heavily scouted worldwide.

Pulisic starts and scores on a header from close range in his final home game. Nice to see.

Wondering if we'll get Tyler Adams for the Gold Cup. Still out with adductor injury (same injury that is keeping Jamie Sands out of U-20 WC).

Josh Sargent has played once, for seven minutes, since Feb 22nd. Not exactly the form you're looking for from a striker going into the Gold Cup.

Under 17 team is about 5 minutes away from qualifying for the World Cup. 3-0 in the 88th minute.

Looks like the Under 17 WC is this fall in Brazil. So a sweet trip for our kids.

And very watchable hours for ya boy.

I'm feeling very bullish about our U17 and U20s. Wouldn't be surprised to see one, if not both of them, make a deep run.

Revs have fired both Friedel and GM Mike Burns this week. Sounds like there was no interest in the coaching job unless they had control over roster moves as well. About time.

Kayo and Tolkin (2020 commits) get the start tonight in the U17s against Canada. Kayo gets the first goal, while Reyna gets the second. To say Reyna has been good would be an understatement. Let’s see this out to the finals.

Reyna's free kick from 25 yards was pretty sweet. Busio setup Pepi for the last two.

We play the winner of Mexico/Haiti in the final on Thursday, 7pm. Currently 0-0 at half

Interesting nugget from Sciaretta:

If the U.S team wins the U-17 final, US Soccer will hold the CONCACAF titles for the senior team (2017 Gold Cup), the U-20s (2018 CONCACAF title), & the U-17s.

Why are Chelsea and New England Revs scheduled to play next Wednesday? What a weird time to schedule a friendly (although I doubt the match actually happens unless Chelsea brings a youth squad).

Match went great! Ruben Loftus Cheek badly injured and will miss Europa finals. Smart scheduling all around.

Kinda funny to watch these two U-17 teams play. Feels like the exact opposite of the senior teams. We have had most of the possession, all of the quality possession, several good chances, and a goal. Mexico has struggled with pressure, dumb turnovers, bad passes, and is kinda fortunate not to be down more 16 min in.

And literally as I type that Mexico has it’s one stretch of possession and scores on a nice chip over the top and a header to make it 1-1.
