Secret Service intercepts ‘potential explosive devices’ sent to Obama, Clinton

It must be so confusing to work for Fox News right now. On the one hand, you're expected to issue reports on how the Democrats have become a violent, terrorist mob supporting Latino terrorists sweeping up to, and across, our borders, and how this Democratic/Socialist/Marxist mob is threatening brave GOP leaders like McConnell in public places, and yet on the other hand, you've now got to report on all of these mail bombs being sent to Democrats and others who have dared to publicly criticize Trump, obviously from a deranged Trump supporter. Not to mention the rich hypocrisy of Trump condemning these acts of terror, while also attacking Democrats in his usual harsh, brutal, over-the-top style in campaign rallies on the same day he condemned the violence and called for an end to our divisions and national "unity." LOL.

ETA: Trump also blamed the fake news media for stirring up the "anger" - he bears none of the responsibility, of course. Apparently, those folks at CNN really want to get themselves killed! No mention, of course, of his own rhetoric or those of his fellow Republicans having anything to do with ratcheting up this "anger".

Not hard for them at all -- these were obviously sent by democrats as a false flag operation to drum up midterm support. Garbage humans on the right already eating that up.

The party that couldn't campaign their way out of a wet paper bag is now strategically setting up false flag assassination attempts of its own leaders and leaders emeritus to gin up support in an election designed to take down a wannabe dictator who has openly called for violence against Democrats and media figures.

Right, that sounds exactly like Democrats. Fucking rubes.

And the thing is - it's really not that hard to grapple with from a political perspective. React to the magnitude of the incident and don't fuck around with conspiracy theories and lies.

Yeah - the GOP and Trump will be criticized for their rhetoric possibly contributing to these acts of violence, but it's not like anybody, at least at this point, can directly make that connection. If you just condemn it without qualification and commit to catching the suspect, it's basically squashed from a political perspective.

But Trump and the GOP are such assholes they can't even do that much. They just can't help themselves. It's kind of staggering.

ETA: perfunctory - their votes won't care/don't give a shit.

Projection is always the Repub go-to move. They can stomach the idea of doing whatever it takes to stay in power, so they assume the other party similarly has no limits, even if that party in reality is the weak, lame offering its corporate masters want it to be

NYT currently saying we don't know whether the bombs are, in fact, operable. I thought this was previously established:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/25/nyregion/new-york-today-mail-bombs.html

Here’s what we don’t know.

Who is responsible. Law enforcement officials have not publicly identified a suspect.

Why they were sent. While those who were targeted have been the focus of conservative political attacks, law enforcement officials have not confirmed that the devices were linked.

Whether the bombs are real or hoaxes. Law enforcement officials have not said whether the devices are indeed real bombs.

Whether they were operable or not is totally irrelevant. It was an orchestrated act of domestic terrorism.

There could be inoperable due to the incompetence of the bomber. He may have thought they would blow up.

of course whether they were operable is relevant

if the "bomber" sent inert pieces of plastic with no explosives and thought they would blow up, he has issues and should go to jail, but in that case it's inaccurate to label this as an attempted mass murder

Including shrapnel, glass and other materials shows he had bad intent. Apparently they didn't have the same problems with each device. This makes it unlikely that the bomber realized the bombs weren't any good.

If he thought they would blow up, his intent was mass murder. He intended to kill two ex-POTUS, an ex-SOS, an ex-AG, an ex-VP, an DNI, an actor and an sitting Member of Congress.

If you hold someone at gunpoint and the gun won't fire, you are guilty of attempted murder. So is this guy or guys.

It's too bad they can't indict Trump as a co-conspirator. It's extremely likely his words and deeds incited this person.

If I hold someone at "gunpoint" with a pen, I'm not guilty of attempted murder

(I could of course still be shot during the standoff)

Given his ISIL "flag" comment, he may have stupid enough to think they were going to work. It's unlikely he's competent enough to come up with ten different mistakes and make sure those mistakes couldn't lead to one of them exploding.

Your pen could go through someone's eyeball and kill them. MacGyver could kill you 312 ways with a hotel stick pen and many more with a Mont Blanc instrument.

And we are talking about Trump on a day of multiple attempted assassinations.

NY Times isn't helping calm things down:

"One of the short stories on the Times' online Book Review page - to be published in Sunday's print edition - is titled, “How it Ends,” by Zoe Sharp – a chilling story about a drunken Russian’s plot to murder the president with a Makarov pistol. Sharp’s particular story doesn’t mention Trump by name, but it’s no secret as the collection of stories is headlined, “Five novelists imagine Trump’s next chapter.”

Would we really miss De Niro at this point in his career? I mean, it has been a quarter century since Goodfellas.

The problem is tons of money has been spent promoting this book and thousands of books have been shipped.

He's been in a bunch of good movies since then. None, as good as Goodfellas, but few movies are in that class.

I don’t know what that has to do with what I said. I lamented that Trump was the lead story on a day of apparent multiple assassination attempts.

You're blaming the New York Times Book Review for fanning the flames? Huh?
