Senator Collins[R-ME] announces FOR Kavanaugh

How many women have the GOP allowed on the Senate Judiciary Committee? How many have they allowed in Congressional leadership?

When asked why there aren't more female senators on the committee, the Iowa Republican said: "Well, it's a lot of work. Don't forget, compared to a lot of committee meetings, we have an executive every Thursday. ... So it's a lot of work. Maybe they don't want to do it."

As with other minorities, since the rise of Trump they increasingly don't even try to hide their disdain for women anymore. What's remarkable is that so many white GOP women, like Collins, just go along with it, while still mouthing the pieties of supporting the #metoo movement. Collins even had other women standing behind her, while she made the wonderful logical contortion of claiming to believe that Dr. Ford was assaulted, but that it didn't really matter enough to keep Kavanaugh off the court. Of course she didn't say it that way, but that's effectively what she meant. IMO, Kavanaugh's victory was a real setback for the #metoo movement, and will no doubt dampen the willingness of women to come forward with their assault experiences in the future. Which, I suspect, will suit guys like Grassley, Hatch, McConnell, and Kavanaugh just fine. #maga #patriarchyrulez!

This is the disconnect. Those statements are incongruous. She was quite clear on how the assault happened and who did it. She is either lying or she is telling the truth.

exactly. can’t have it both ways wrangor.

You're the party of white supremacy and gave us a rapist bully as President. You don't get to talk about civility.

This is a thing with Trumpublicans. It is another way for white men to be the victims. They see themselves (ironically) like a new version of Tom Robinson wrongly accused by the #metoo and feminist movements who are destroying the reputation of good white men everywhere over a problem that women put on themselves. White men are being persecuted today in same way as black men were in the South. It's astounding.

Wrangor's the worst kind of rube. He's really dumb, but he thinks he is wise and above the fray. He doesn't understand that the investigation was a sham limited to less than a week and limited in scope by Trump.

I won't you fake ass Christian.

And just like every other Republican pretends, Wrangor doesn't support Trump, he just supports 90% of what Trump does and just comes on these boards for Benghazi and Brett Kavanaugh. He's a piece of shit.

I think the point is that you're a terrible person and one wonders how you can look at yourself in the mirror.

I mean Rchill would probably make the proclamation that anyone at all that supports the Republican Party in its current iterations can’t be Christian he’s just using Wrangor as his example. It’s not a massive leap when you run down the list of things the Republican Party actually does and believes, not what they say about “family and Christian values” which is just lip service to stroke those fake Christian values fears about what’s happening in this country. Even if you play the whatabout game and say well Democrat politicians do this or that at least they don’t stand there claiming Christianity while doing the exact opposite of any of Jesus teachings.

Nailed it. Perfect post.

A vast majority of GOP policies directly contradict the teaching of Jesus Christ. He didn't teach a man to fish, he fed the entire crowd.

That's a good article. Rich Lowry is one of those smug, right-wing little intellectual dweebs with no lips who shows up on Meet the Press as a frequent roundtable member, and like Susan Collins or Jeff Flake will sound critical of Trump from time to time, while ultimately supporting pretty much everything he does. Hugh Hewitt is another one, and there's one or two others who are frequent guests on Meet the Press - they're virtually interchangeable, even in appearance.
