• Welcome to OGBoards 10.0, keep in mind that we will be making LOTS of changes to smooth out the experience here and make it as close as possible functionally to the old software, but feel free to drop suggestions or requests in the Tech Support subforum!

So how exactly did this happen?

They can always get a job working on the Great Wall of Trump. It's time we all come together, no matter how you felt before the election, and pull together as Americans to MAGA. That's the kind of inspiring stuff I expect to hear at the Victory Rally tonight.

it's not a job when you're press-ganged into it. mark it down, 2018 is the year Trump rolls out indentured servitude

The Carrier deal is all about PR--good politics and bad policy. That said, the media are playing right into Trump's hands by making such a big deal of it. Obama has spent billions throwing money at the solar industry and they ate that up. It's a double standard and anyone with eyes can see that.

Obama also threw hundreds of billions at the auto industry and got ridiculed for it and called a socialist. Why can't the population see through these silly marketing ploys?

yeah but families making below EITC levels will be pumping $100s of dollars into the local economy

The resident lefties are right on this one. I just wish they would have criticized Obama "bailouts" on a much larger scale. Maybe they did, but I don't remember it. Crony capitalism is bad, no matter who is doing it.

People should have pride in their work and being able to work but everyone should strive for something better. These people seem to take great pride in their not so great jobs that apparently anyone can do, hence why they can easily be shipped off to 3rd world countries. Instead of tax breaks for corporations it should be for every worker they eliminate by moving they need to provide X amount for former employees new education, it wouldn't even be that much, in fact about one year in tax breaks they are saving by staying, 7 million. Set up more Trade schools etc, provide that 7,000 dollars only for education not a free handout for anything. Lets get people learning marketable and needed skills for the future instead of trying to delay the inevitable.

Jobs are really important, especially on the campaign trail, but the idea of politician as job creator is a goddamned farce. Economists across the spectrum agree with this idea. But then again, economists are the elite and we vote with our guts not with our facts, so fuck it all, Trump's gonna be great! Saving jobs! Woot!

Somebody didn't get their way.

I think it's estimated as many as 60% of the current jobs could be lost to the coming automation boom. It's gonna be ugly.

Damn. I live on a different planet than you guys.

These folks are making $28,000 - $49,000 a year working at carrier making parts. If you take the Average, we are looking at $38,500 a year. I'd say that's less than most, if not everyone who posts here, but it's not like they're making minimum wage.

So the man/woman is making roughly 40k at Carrier and their spouse is making....lets go low and say $30k a year. that's an annual household income of $70,000. This wage puts the family smack in the middle class. The middle class is who voted for Trump. If Trump doesn't do what he can to save middle class jobs, he goes against everything he talked about the last year.

No, no. If this board proves anything at all, it is that crony capitalism is only bad if the guy you don't like does it. Otherwise its all good.

Some people spend 250K on an education to work low paying retail jobs, so lets be polite and not make assumptions.

You may want to change back to your bobknightfan parody account.

Please provide a link for the assertion that Pence offered incentives for companies to ship jobs oversees.

From what I can find, Pence provided incentives for companies who shipped jobs overseas. Different but still bad.
