Star Wars thread (Ahsoka)

He made the movie he had money and technology to make. He didn't make the prequels until he thought the cgi available was good enough. He had to create ILM to develop himself.

I understand what he offers as the reason, but I’m just calling bullshit on that. It would require accepting the premise that Lucas planned ahead more than the decades of evidence suggest.

He planned major story beats for the prequels. Agree that he most certainly did not have the details ironed out and changed stuff on the fly when he thought it was cool. Lots of missteps but he wasn't aiming for intricate adult storytelling. He was aiming at kids as much or more.

And plenty of folks tell tight stories for kids. Lucas is perhaps unrivaled as a world builder, but he’s a shit storyteller. It would be better for Disney if they accepted that and let more great storytellers play in his sandbox with fewer restrictions to jam skywalker story ties.

I like how they're trying to be all discreet in the enemy base by talking to each other on fucking walkie talkies in view of others.

And then those ships swoop in and save them at exactly the right moment after about 100 things happened that clearly weren't in the plan. Maybe they used their walkie talkies to summon them or something.

It's not great but I like it. That's all.

The chase scenes with the kid and the cruising through the base are wonky, oh well.

That's why they scrapped movies and, I assume, are trying to come up with a plan.

Just let Filoni come up with a plan. The sandbox is so big and covers so many time frames that they could give anybody free reign.

It’s always been strange that he felt he needed better technology to make an earlier chronological film.

There also seems to be no real technological advances in the Star Wars universe between the prequels and the sequels.

If you are talking about "in-universe" advances, that is part of the point. The galaxy was at it's peak during the prequel years but the rise of the Empire caused the society to stagnant and begin to regress. In the prequels everything is supposed to be shiny and new by the OT everything is faded and aging. Only the Empire has access to the latest technology.

I agree. When Lucas made the original Star Wars, he had a backstory, but it was mainly just a rough outline. He had hoped to be able to tell the whole story but he only had funding to tell the "middle part". So he developed ANH. When it was a massive success, he then continued the story with ESB and ROTJ. But it is not like he had the whole story, including the Prequels, all figured out and finalized before he made ANH.

He did delay making the prequels until the CGI was where he thought it needed to be. But it's not like he wanted to tell that story in 1977 but couldn't because of the film technology. He had to invent ILM just to be able to make ANH.

Other than the fact that seeing Vader is cool, I can't get into the Obi Wan show. There's no suspense. Vader, Leia, and Obi Wan all survive the series. Leia meeting Obi Wan or "Ben" when she is 10 does seem inconsistent with ANH.

IDGAF about the "inquisitors"....they aren't around for ANH so I imagine Vader eventually just kills them.

This is just a cash grab by the Mouse House. Oh well. More Vader please.

can't the inquisitors sense jedi? how is Obi Wan even able to move around Vader's fortress

I think Obi Wan has suppressed The Force for so long, and continues to make an effort to do so during the show, so he isn't being picked up on their Forcedar.

I mean he used the force to throw some sound as a distraction. Vader could sense weak ass Luke on a planet from space.

True. Plus Vader sensed Obi Wan on the Death Star in ANH. With Luke, I guess he was just a badass by then, spewing his Force jiz everywhere he walked, so he was probably easier to pick up. Obi Wan, on the other hand, pretty much did the same thing on the Death Star that he did in that base.

Was Vader even on the base, I assume so with showing up at the end so quickly. Was he just in his chamber jerking it to Ewok porn. A big meh base alarm is sounding not my problem.

so....OB went from "barely moving a domino" on the ship to "hold back a trillion gallons of water with the Force" but was able to cloak his force?
