The New Socialists

Feel free to explain how an early decision not to endorse any candidate besides Bernie Sanders is not a decision to just stick with Bernie no matter what.

DSA passed this resolution at its convention:

People upset about this don't seem to understand what "endorsement" means.

So, your party is endorsing Trump. If you aren't endorsing Biden, you are de facto endorsing Trump.

Congratulations on supporting racism, xenophobia and unchecked capitalism.

Feel free to explain why a socialist organization should endorse Joe Biden.

Endorse means to publicly support. I am not sure I understand why an organization like the DSA would not publicly support Biden over Trump, a person who is completely antithetical to everything it claims to stand for.

And Biden is one thing, I guess, but making the decision to not support Warren if she were the nominee makes even less sense.

Endorsing a career politician from America’s corporate tax haven would go against everything the DSA stands for.

But hey anything to blame others and distract from how weak the actual candidate is, right?

Y’all really are using the 2016 playbook again

Endorsement is not just a public statement of support. For an organization where electoral strategy is only a portion of the work that it does, endorsement means putting financial and non financial support behind something. For example with Bernie, it meant spending limited resources on VAN, hiring a compliance staff, buying other software for text banking, membership database, etc. It also meant thousands of people organizing their own DSA for Bernie canvasses, outside of the Bernie campaign. If you can explain why a socialist organization would put those resources behind someone who is explicitly not a socialist, and expect to maintain its socialist membership, I’d love to hear it.

Because Trump is existentially worse than Biden and there are only two people who can win.

This is why moderates Dem presidential candidates lose. Instead of finding ways to recruit/attract the progressive wing of the party, the moderates run off the progressives. For better or worst Trump went out and built a coalition with all parts of the right.

I’m not sure if it’s entitlement or selfishness, but moderate Dems just don’t have no desire to reform our economic system.

Brasky if Bernie would have won the nomination "Bend a knee you neo-liberal corporate shills!!!!!11111!!!!!!"

I mean you pretty much are a neo-liberal corporate shill, so at least he'd be accurate.

Was there a follow-up tweet stating that even though they were not endorsing Biden that their members to need to get out and vote for Biden and their preferred local candidates in November, as a vital step in moving forward? If so, that's fine. They don't have to endorse Biden to vote for him. But surely they realize that Biden is a whole lot better for them than Trump. Plus, local candidates are where the DSA need to make their progress.

Not in that tone, but I'm sure there would have been a little gloating. But that time has passed, Biden effectively won the nomination over a month ago.

If Bernie was the nominee I'd be on here talking about his ideas and proposed reforms, and explaining how that would benefit all Americans. I couldn't tell you the last time I read a post from the Status Quo Crew promoting anything on Biden's platform. Is it because he doesn't plan to change anything? Or that his ideas are so uninspiring that you can only play gotcha identity politics.

It's frankly a little weird that the portfolio bros are still celebrating given the situation at-hand and the stakes ahead.
