The New Socialists

So should Biden reach out to AOC (a member of DSA) or not?

I think that it would be in his interest to contact a very popular young politician who is especially popular with demographics he didn't do well with in the primary but will need in the general, yes

What do you think?

Biden added a plank for free public college for everyone making $125K or less.
Biden wants to lower Medicare Eligibility to 60 and add a public option for people under 60. (regardless of what AOC says, Hillary was proposing a buy in to Medicare (which is essentially just a version of the public option) at 55.

There are two examples right off the top of my head.

Ok thanks for responding. Neither issue does much for me personally, but I can see why they would be considered more progressive. Although both are clunky ideas, that need to be marketed in much clearer terms. I would like to see Joe and his surrogates actually marketing his ideas, instead of attacking Trump or progressives.

I'm on board with the free college idea, but only if the federal government reshapes loans/funding in a way that fundamentally reforms our university system. Colleges and universities cost way too much and care less and less about educating their students. If it was up to me we wouldn't give a dime to students attending private universities, if you cut off their legs you'll end the arms race.

expanding health care access to people 60+ (Clinton was 50+)

means tested debt relief proposal

the first is a joke; the second is intriguing
This is not even close to Accurate. Surprising for somebody who complains about others not paying attention to policy

Those are the two proposals to date. There haven't been others yet.

Seems like the DSA has already rejected Biden, so why would he?

Sort of, although I'm far more concerned with our disgusting tax system.
Maybe you should read Biden's tax plan which is actually quite progressive in a lot of ways is very similar to Elizabeth Warren's.

Speaking of taxes I told you all that Republicans would end up ruing the day when they changed from a deferred foreign tax system (cfc) to a tax system where you could easily tax current foreign activities just by changing the rates.

1) https://www.insidehighered.com/quicktakes/2020/04/10/bidens-new-student-loan-cancellation-plan

Biden's plan would forgive all undergraduate tuition-related federal student debt for borrowers who earn up to $125,000 a year and who attended community college or four-year public colleges and universities. The federal government would cover monthly payments for borrowers until the forgivable amount was paid off under his proposal, which would apply to borrowers who attended private HBCUs or minority-serving institutions.

"I believe that as we are being plunged into what is likely to be one of the most volatile and difficult economic times in this country’s recent history, we can take these critical steps to help make it easier for working people to make ends meet," Biden wrote. "Senator Sanders and his supporters can take pride in their work in laying the groundwork for these ideas, and I’m proud to adopt them as part of my campaign at this critical moment in responding to the coronavirus crisis."

In addition to the newly announced proposal, Biden has backed a plan from Senator Elizabeth Warren to immediately cancel a minimum of $10,000 of student debt per person.

Link to his plan here.

2) https://www.npr.org/sections/health...economy-lower-medicares-eligibility-age-to-60

Biden writes:

"Under this concept, Americans would have access, if they choose, to Medicare when they turn 60, instead of when they turn 65. Medicare benefits would be provided to them as they are to current Medicare recipients. This would make Medicare available to a set of Americans who work hard and retire before they turn 65, or who would prefer to leave their employer plans, the public option, or other plans they access through the Affordable Care Act before they retire."

In addition, he says, "the Biden Medicare-like public option — as well as other subsidized private plans available to individuals through the Affordable Care Act — would remain available."

The former proposal is the concession; the latter proposal is already part of his platform

Just fyi, his means tested free tuition plan was floated a month ago and not part of Biden campaign's self-described "olive branch" to Sanders supporters.

I'm looking forward to your reply.

Yeah I don’t hate it, went and read a summary after I posted about it. Need Joe out there talking about this. Although I’d love a wealth tax too. Even if it’s just a one time thing to help pay for the capitalist failures of the last couple of months.

So, you want to not participate but also want your policies to be enacted. What a lazy, whining load of crap that is.

I'm sorry that your imagination is limited to vote for shitty sexual harasser or STFU, but that's not how I choose to do politics.

Don't complain if Trump wins. You are helping him and acting EXACTLY the way Trump wants to act. You might as well wear a MAGA hat.
