Trump Committed Tax Fraud & Insurance Fraud & Bank Fraud

can someone remind why the hush money is such a big deal?

did he use campaign funds for it or something?

I think the issue is that it was a contribution to his campaign, not that he used campaign funds for it, and that he failed to disclose it. In other words, the hush money payment was for a campaign purpose.

And yeah, it could have altered the election if it came out at the time. I understand the Inside Edition audio tape came out. But a second account of Trump cheating on his pregnant wife with a porn star could have altered some peoples' minds.

And if it wasn't a big deal, then why did Michael Cohen have to spend a year in jail for it.

It would not have changed the outcome. "god uses imperfect vessels" is a common theme for his voters. The outcome is more important that the path there. Trust god's plan you just don't understand it. Rinse, repeat. Anything to keep the sheep in line and making there payments... I mean tithe.

The case is more about falsifying business records. It could lead to a campaign financing problem, but probably not.

1. Cohen paid off Daniels.
2. Trump wrote checks to Cohen to reimburse him for paying off Daniels under the guise of a retainer and bonuses.

The problem for the prosecution's case is probably the second crime if they're planning to prosecute him for a felony. If they're only going to charge him with a misdemeanor then this is an incredible waste of time.

Pretty high chance Trump is the one requesting to be put in handcuffs so he can campaign off it.

And to force DeSantis to decide whether to interfere in an extradition request.

He wants to set up Jan 6 with his supporters treating DeSantis like Pence.

My understanding is campaign financing has a 5 year statute of limitations and expired in 2021.

What a waste of time. F that POS. Many anti Trump people I read believe this prosecution is one that has the lowest chance of being indicted let alone convicted and imprisoned. Why even give him a platform where he can act like a martyr for his Mega crowd? Isn't the Georgia case against him much more viable?

they're independent investigations

He needs to be charged anywhere there is sufficient evidence. His level of lawlessness, not to mention recklessness, is unprecedented and can't go unpunished or the next person will be even worse. (Read not dumb and better / more successful at it)

That is nonsense. The loathing of this man is admirable but all is happening is giving this asshole a pulpit for his bitching. The key is defeating him in the election process, not rallying every whack in the country who feels they have been abused or singled out by the System. And limiting his publicity is the best way to keep him from Office. There are hundreds of examples of cases where this shit gets shelved. Singling him out as an example is not a deterrent to what should be the primary goal; make him go away.

This NY thing is a garbage case whether he's convicted or not.

For NY state crimes, the SoL is 5 years for almost everything other than a handful of things like murder, terrorism, etc. That would include the anticipated falsifying business records charge and any NY state campaign finance charges. But the SoL is tolled when a defendant is continuously out of the state. Trump hasn’t spent much time in NY since 2016, so there’s probably plenty of time left on the SoL (though how much would depend on what continuously means).

The argument against that is that he wasn't absconding. He was the President and regularly returning to NY, so it's not like he fled for 5 years.
