If anything, being in a Power 5 football conference should help with basketball. Villanova does have a FCS football program (a good one), but that program is a net money drain for the school. As part of Power 5 conference with a lucrative TV deal, WF football nets money for the WF athletic department and the school. FWIW, WF basketball, being part of the ACC, also brings in more revenue than Villanova hoop.

When you see the success of a Villanova in basketball, all excuses for WF's current failures in basketball are exposed as false.

This is absolutely true. Power 5 football brings in millions of dollars for Wake that Nova does not get and provides financial support for athletic infrastructure (weight rooms, study halls, support staff) that Nova cannot afford.

With the financial windfall that Wake enjoys (unearned) from ACC membership, there is literally no excuse whatsoever for Wake's dumpster fire of a basketball program and many other non-revenue sports. The fault is purely and squarely on Ron Wellman's lack of leadership and incompetence at hiring and supporting the right coach.

If accountability meant anything at Wake the BOT would have forced Hatch to fire Wellman long ago.

Nova also was in a conference that imploded and was forced to reassess the land and able to team with others to form a very good alternative. Can you imagine what would happen to wake if the ACC suddenly cratered and half the membership left?
 
Since the ones leaving would almost certainly be the football powers, Wake and the ACC likely backfill with UConn and Cincinnati. We would probably find ourselves in a conference that is still stronger than the current Big East in basketball, but one in which we could compete much better in football.

If we were abandoned, we would join the American or join the Big East in hoops and drop to FCS in football.

The OP and this discussion is nice but I hope no Wake fan posting here needed Villanova to succeed to realize the excuses are BS.

Exactly correct and we have nothing to do with WSSU, so we make it extremely hard on our minority athletes to exist with a campus life, much less academically. We continue to shoot ourselves in the foot in every way imaginable.
