Wake Forest 2023 baseball season thread (Deacs end historic season with extra inning loss to LSU: Final record 54-12 and top 4 finish nationally)

Coastal is starting RHP John Kelly; he's an OK State transfer. Kelly has been lightly used on the season:

5 Games
4.1 IP
9 H
5 ER
5 BB
4 K
1 HR

So, this looks like a Johnny Wholestaff game for the Chaunts. Coastal has had pitching issues all year, but the CC offense is legit.

They are second in the country in runs per game averaging 10.1 per game. FWIW, WF is averaging 9.2 runs per game (7th in the nation); WF is also first by a mile in ERA; WF's team ERA is 2.45; S. Carolina is 2nd at 3.23. Coastal's team ERA is 6.30 (180th).

You boys are getting ready to see why they say pitching and D wins championships. Deacs blow the doors off the barn and run away with a 13-4 victory. Not going to make 7 errors this time around and Keener going to limit those bats while Deacs have BP.....

Ts and Ps to his friends and family.

Wake lost by what, one run in Conway and committed 7 errors? I think we get the job done with Keener going.

Duke also plays at #9 Campbell. The game is a pick.

DK has WF -165.
In on the Deacs for some #budlightmoney.

Feels like a really good spot. Better starting pitcher, better offensive lineup, playing at home where we are 22-1, and have the "revenge" factor for whatever that's worth after dropping the road game to Coastal

Campbell is overrated as a top 10 team as far as what their actual ceiling/talent level is IMO but Duke is a little underrated as well. Duke is 200-1 to win the title on DK which seems long compared to the other ACC odds:

Wake 10-1
UVA 20-1
Louisville 40-1
UNC 50-1
State/Miami 60-1
Virginia Tech 100-1
Georgia Tech/Duke 200-1
Notre Dame/Clemson 300-1
Pitt/FSU 500-1 (lol)

BC off board due to Massachusetts prohibition

Disclaimer: absolutely not taking Duke 200-1 but that seems value-driven given how they've played lately

What is the Mass prohibition? No gambling on Mass colleges/amateur athletics? Does it only apply to people placing bets in Mass?

Lots of states have that rule. No betting on VA colleges in VA.

Nevada used to have that rule, and after critics of sports gambling tried to use it as an example of the fear that gambling would corrupt sports, Nevada lifted the ban, and there are no restrictions on betting local sports there.

Interesting. Things we don’t have to worry about in Georgia (for now - sports betting was only a few votes from making it through this legislative session; I think it will come to pass in the next couple years).
