Wake Forest Football 2018 Offseason Discussion

JUCOs aren’t part of the NCAA. But you are correct that there are different rules for different divisions. Probably an even better argument from your end is that the rules vary based on the sport. I think a lot of the transfer rules tie into the full scholarship aspect of it, with some many aspects dating back decades.

JuCos are once they transfer into a school.

Many JuCo players have earned AA degrees when they go to 4 year schools. So that is a little different from transferring between four-year schools.

How kid friendly is the spring game? Talking 4 and 6 year old girls here so the most actual football they'd watch is probably about an hour.

Weather is a huge factor. If it’s nice, they will have a good time. If it’s really cold, forget it. The seats are usually on the west side in the shade which can really suck in the spring.

Weather isn’t looking promising for Saturday.

Also confirmation that the defensive playbook will be different this year.

That was a surprise that the defense will be revised. Guess the weaknesses seen last year prompted some changes.

No. It had been discussed. Last year was a transition year with almost a completely new defensive staff. This year, they're installing Sawvel's system.

If the offense is good, we will mostly have to worry about kickoffs.

Zach Murphy’s numbers look better than Sciba’s save for the missed EP. ideally, you don’t want Dom to handle Punta, KOs, EPs and FGs.

A healthy Dom is probably Wakes best at all of those. The question may be "which of those has an acceptable second best?" There was no discussion of the punting game in the write up.

Kick offs also weren't discussed. Anybody know if any of these guys have enough distance on KOs to consistently get touchbacks?

Alternative: Don't punt. Just go for it every time.

I'm already nervous about football season. It is a much anticipated season coming up with a lot of people thinking we could be pretty good, so that is a prime situation for us to go out and lay an egg. A lot like how the current baseball season is going.

There are a lot of promising pieces in place for Wake FB in fall 2018. One that is still a work in progress is QB. The RPO offense is highly dependent on the QB making the right reads of the defense pre-snap and just after getting the snap. Wolford did very well at that. The question is how well his successor is able to read defenses. If he does well at that, so should Wake.

Last year the obstacle was finally taking the reigns off the offense with the RPO. This year the obstacle will be breaking in a new QB with these WRs. It might take a few games before it clicks (similar to last season with UL). Hopefully we are 3-0 going into the ND game.
