Writeup from topdrawersoccer.com on Wake recruits that participated in the recent US Academy playoffs and showcase.

Wake Forest(m)
Samuel Fink (St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro) - didn't show me much though he played for the entire game - perhaps the sun, heat and 4 games on this day impacted me. I'll give him a pass.
Thomas Haws (Lonestar SC) - is graduating in 2012. He is one of the best players on his team, already. He anticipates well stealing a pass and immediately transitioning into the attack. His ensuing square pass was off-target. He tracks opponents down like a starving dog fighting for table scraps. Haws had trouble getting back late in the first half in the Texas heat.
Sean Okoli (Seattle Sounders) - Wow! He's an exceptional forward. He passes, runs off the ball, plays hard defense up-top. Generally, an honest forward - a typical Jay Vidovich forward.

I posted this on another thread, but 2012 signee Michael Gamble had six goals in four games during finals week. His team finished fifth.

I believe not, but I could be forgetting someone.

Okoli and Mullin both appear to be studs.

At least a couple of transfers, none of whom started or really played much at all.

Article in today's Washington Post about Wake recruit Jalen Robinson and the debate over the best way to develop the US's best youth players

College is going to limit a players growth. There's no way around it. Instead of training, practicing, and breathing soccer all the time, he's gonna be in classes and hanging around people who aren't focused on the same thing. That's not a bad thing if he's not confident that his future is in soccer. Getting an education is a good plan. But it's obvious in the long run that will hurt our country's soccer development. Once MLS and NASL grow to the point that the minimum salaries are equal or higher than the average college graduate income, you'll see more players willing to skip college.

I think one season of college isn't a big problem as long as that player knows he'll be getting good games (ACC, UCLA, maybe Big 10, maybe Akron). It's when they stick around for longer that they get into those long stretches of time where they aren't getting the practice they need.

The argument has also been made that the unlimited subs rule of NCAA leads to a poorer form of soccer. Instead of emphasis on technique, players are platooned on and off the field and told to go balls to the wall, running full steam.

goal.com has us ranked preseason 15, 5th highest in the acc.

College Soccer News has us rated 25th......wth do they know...these kids have been practicing and training all summer....they will be fit and alot more mature...preseason starts on 8/10 and the first game is less then 15 days away!!

btw...there are some changes to the roster and familiar names missing (ignore the picture since it's last years and they haven't posted a new one):

Get ready to lock and load cause it's almost open season and the Deacs are on the hunt

Baron, can you give a projected starting lineup and maybe 5-7 subs? I tried to follow last season on the internet, but I missed all the games. It's just not the same.

pure conjecture:

Lisch, Duval, Toli, Watts, Arena, Emerson, Wenzel, Delbono, Gimenez, Mullen, Lubahn

Ryan, Torres, Schemper, Tomaselli, Newnam....Freshman..Okali, don't know much about the transfers or the other Freshman

This should be a good start...I'm sure that JV will get a good look at everyone..

No way we are just the 25th best team in the nation this year. We're better than that.

I'm going to do my best to get to as many games as I can at Spry this year. I think we're on our way back!
