Wake Tennis 2017-2018

Rough stretch vs Florida teams. Need to get healthy it seems

We’re pretty healthy. It will be great to get Seraphim back, but he likely won’t be in top form.

Our problem is 5 and 6 singles. We’ve got a lot of similar players at that level, none of which are consistent. Zlobinsky was great earlier in the year, but he’s in a bit of a lull. Gadjiev can play at a really high level, but sometimes he lays eggs. Today was Solomon’s first big dual match. He had some bad calls go against him and then seemed to mentally fall apart. Losing 0, 0 at 6 is really bad. I would be surprised if he gets another chance this year.

I would like to see Nava get another chance at 6. Rezi also seems like a good option. Or put them at 5 and Zlobinsky at 6.

The other thing that was bad about Solomon’s match is that he beat the #1 for Florida, Perez, in the fall.

hold up. our 6 singles dude lost 0 and 0, yet he beat their number 1 a few months ago?

Were the women able to pull out that first match? When I go to the site, it just shows the ongoing match.

#1 Wake beat #25 Notre Dame 7-0 today. Good bounce back from the loss Friday. Gadjiev played 5 and Nava played 6, and both won in 3 sets. They both looked really solid in their third sets. I was impressed with Nava’s play.

Interesting week ahead. Petros and Rrezart start their pool play tomorrow. They will play 3 matches on April 4, 5, and 6, and if they win their pool they will play again on the 7th, so count both of those guys out for Clemson and GTech. Skan will also miss both matches as Tunisia plays Estonia. Borna plays Alex Ritschard, former UVA star, tomorrow in Memphis futures. It's entirely possible he loses and heads back home, but also entirely possible that he wins a couple of matches and misses one or both of our weekend matches. Our lineup would then look like this:

1. Botzer
2. Zlobinsky
3. Gadjiev
4. Nava
5. Solomon
6. Dempster

Seraphim could also be back which would help in singles and dubs.

Damn. We lost 2x last week yet still remain number one and seem to have increased our lead over number 2.

As noted above, the Wake men remain #1. Petros moves up from 7 to 5, Gojo from 29 to 8, Skander is 41, Solomon 111, and Seraphim 121. In doubles Petros/Mansouri is 1, Mansouri/Dempster 32, Mansouri/Gojo 35, Zlobinsky/Seraphim 37, Petros/Botzer 79.

The women drop to #27. They have been dealing with injuries but really need to step up their game to make the tourney. Davis is 37, Omirou is 124, and Davis/Carter 46.

Meneloas, a future Deac, also won 0 and 0 for Cyprus. Rrezart won 3 and 0 in singles and 1 and 1 in dubs for Montenegro. These matches are on clay, and presumably slower red clay, which would really help Rrezi.

Despite being up 6-2, 4-1 over former UVA star, Alex Ritschard, Borna just lost 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the 1st round of the Memphis futures. The good news is he will be able to get back to WS for this weekend's matches.

Gojo was up like that against FSU and ended up losing, and we lost the match 3-4.
