I went with 6.

Crawford is the best player we've had since Aminu/Ish. With Devin gone, Collins and Moore will have more minutes coming their way and are prime candidates to make a leap in the offseason.

Biggest question mark going forward is our wing play. As soon as Manning can address this we will have a really good squad. We will have six or seven players (depending on whether we pick up a grad transfer) competing for two starting spots (Childress, Mitchell, Washington, Watson, Wilbekin, Woods, Grad Transfer X). Ideally a couple of those guys will really separate themselves and fill out the starting lineup.

If that works out and/or Manning can nab a couple of top 75ish wing players for 2017 then he will get this turned around.

WTF ! ? !? With 17.4 seconds on the clock we'd have been better off driving straight to the hoop for a dunk than dribbling around for six seconds and jacking up a prayer.

I mean, that's a shot that you can still take with 2 seconds left on the clock. You know, after you make a quick layup, foul another player not named Cat Barber (or even Cat Barber because that shot will still be there even if he makes both shots), and then try to win the game. Crawford has to know about those dynamics before launching that shot. I'm sorry.

I mean the play-call or play execution clearly sucked, but when Crawford got the ball back with 11 seconds left he had an open shot and he took it.

Alternatives at that point are:

1. Run another play on the other side of the floor hoping to find a wide open three with a couple of seconds left

2. Run a pick and roll and try and get an easy two with 6-7 seconds left.

3. Dribble it back out and have Crawford work 1-on-1 to try and get a better look.

All 3 of those are pretty shitty IMO and given that Crawford had hit a 30 footer earlier in the game I'm Ok with him taking that shot with Devin in rebounding position.

The chances of us getting a better shot than that are low (which is an indictment of our team) and I'd rather it come with 11 seconds left than 2.

You've got to be trolling or you didn't watch the right game. To make sure we're on the same page, here's the replay: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=14929021

You don't even have to watch the video, just read the headline.

The more embarrassing media exposure, the better, frankly.

Manning's quote on the last possession "That's the best look we could get at that point and time, so you have to take it".

Pretty sure that's Manning being a human shield for his freshman point guard and not throwing him under the bus. At least that's what I'll tell myself so I can sleep tonight.

For the 6th consecutive season, I could not wait for the season to end.

I'm an uneasy 5. Neither overly pessimistic nor optimistic. Next year will tell us a whole lot about Manning. His in game coaching is not good, but if he's putting in a system and getting the players that fit that system, next year should tell.
Agree with this. But Wellman should be fired immediately for hiring Bz then following him with an inexperienced coach that still needs to greatly develop his game management skills and might be in over his head I/R/T this rebuild.

3, and 2 of which are just because i am glad DM isn't a dickface like [Redacted]

This is the other part that I think goes a bit under the radar. Manning's staff is pretty damn inexperienced, too. Replacing some of the staff (which, unfortunately might mean replacing Chill) might really help while Manning is getting a bit more comfortable at this level. That we don't have a veteran assistant has been a concern of mine since Wellman announced the hire and is a really questionable move from the AD's perspective.

Fire Chill with his boy coming in? I doubt that.

Yeah, that's the ticket, let's get rid of the ONLY assistant that can recruit. He is the one who brought in Crawford and Collins.

I voted 3. The fact that Danny only played Moore for four minutes today makes me want to vote a 1, but I'll hold out hope for next year. Fact of the matter is that he's here for another two years no matter what. I had a lot of hope last year and for most of this year, but it's clear now that he's in way over his head. Nice guy, but never should have been offered the Wake job with his resume. Wellman has made the head coaching position damn near toxic.

Why are some people talking about getting more experienced assistants until Manning is more comfortable? Seriously?

This is an awful coaching staff. Manning won't last any longer than [Redacted] did, and he'll last that long only for propriety's sake. We're back in the wilderness, folks. It's only a matter of time until another change is made, so just bide your time.

The problem with biding our time is that many long time (life time) fans won't be back after 10 years in the wilderness.

The lack of fan support is one thing but 10 years of creating new fans and 30-40 plus years of giving could be program killing.

Oh it is definitely program killing. There are thousands of children of alums growing up with no attachment to Wake.

You should have a grad student write their thesis on this.

Yeah if we have a change in assistants I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be Chill.

I was just pointing out that he's among a staff that features very little experience coaching high major basketball.

An inexperienced head coach and an inexperienced staff is a recipe for...well...what we've seen for the past two years.
