The 2012 Official MLB Baseball Thread (Mother's basement edition)

One of our boys was getting mad TV time decked out in Buffalo Bills gear.

You were at the Orioles game, right?

I had some Red Sox friends ask if I wanted to go but I couldn't not watch the Rays, game, too. Rewatching that, I remember the entire night quite vividly. Once Longoria hit that home run, I literally just ran down my street yelling. Such a natural high.

Yup

If your Red Sox fan friends happened to be sitting right behind the Orioles first base dugout at the very end, we got in yelling arguments at the end as they were being giant douchers. They decided to fight someone else though.

We had to go to the bar before we drove home to calm down

Skins, what are you expecting from Stras this year?

I am expecting him to be dominate but I am not an objective observer. That being said, he has never been not dominate in his short career.

What do you guys think of the Votto extension? I think it's dumb on an epic, Ryan Howard level, probably even dumber.

ETA, even with comparison to the dumb 25/yr deal howard got, at least howard was a free agent. same deal with the mega-deals for Pujols and Fielder this season.

seems like you've tied up all yer money now.

I'm checking out the Cleveland Indians vs. the Carolina Mudcats this afternoon. Strangely, there has been like no publicity whatsoever for this exhibition game. Around 1991/1992, the Mudcats hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates and the whole area went nuts and they sold like 12,000 tickets.

Howard was not a free agent. His extension only kicks in this year. At least his only goes through age 36. What does Votto's go through, 40? Though Votto is better, of course.

Yeah he has nasty stuff. San Diego had Stras fever when he was at SDSU. I wonder if they string out his 160 innings limit in an attempt to preserve him for a possible playoff push, or if they do like Zimmerman and let him pitch naturally and then shut him down whenever he reaches 160.

o woops. philly fan i was talking to this morning said he was.

Great prediction during the rain delay, Dan Shaughnessy.

I really don't understand how Dan Shaughnessy still has a job writing about the Red Sox. It is blatantly obvious that he hates the franchise, the players, and the fans. The happiest moments of his life are Red Sox failures, what a pathetic way to live. I thought winning the WS would end him, but the fact that he still has a job means there is still a good portion of woe is me self-loathing sox fans out there.

Also, he needs to get his Raggedy Ann lettuce under control.

My friend last night called him "that Ms Doubtfire looking dude" and I lost it....I'll toss in my own beginning for "retarded-ass Ms Doubtfire" and call him that from now on

I think it has a lot to do with availability of the product. In 91/92 how many out of market games were on tv a week, 2/3? Also, that 91/92 pittsburgh team was silly and a big braves rival.

The Phils really need to sign him long term during the season. The two times I've seen this spring, he's been basically unhittable.

in today's game? i guess so.

hamels will look great in dodger blue.

I mean, if Matt Cain gets that - what is Lincecum going to get? Hamels? These guys are going to get Barry Zito money.

Cain is a really good pitcher, but I don't know if I would even put him in the top 15. Ooof, this is going to hurt some teams - Rays looking even better with locking up Price

That would be a lot of money locked up in 4 players - that would be, what , $100+ million between Halladay, Lee, Howard & Hamels? Only 12 teams last year had that big of a payroll for their whole team.

Yeah they already have 90 mil in the three other guys. I know the Phils wanna keep him around, but they're gonna need infielders.

Don't forget the combined $25 million/year they spent on an old shortstop and a 60 inning reliever this offseason.
