Shelton Mitchell commits to Wake

This is such great news...we're going to be good again, and I can't wait!

needs to smooth out that hitch in his jumpshot, but dare i say he has a little cp3 in his smoothness

I was waiting for someone else to say something but the first thing I thought when I saw his little up and under to the other side of the rim with that little slide step was "damn, that looks just like CP"

ETA: 1:15 mark on second video

Well, I'm definitely not trying to turn this good news into a Bzzz thread, but this get increases the possibility that he will be at Wake for awhile, at least next year. It reminds me of the Andy Griffith episode when Barney and Andy get stuck eating Aunt Bee's kerosene pickles. As Andy said, "Learn to love 'em Barn, learn to love 'em".

Legitimately excited for the first time in a very long time thinking about CMM, Mitchell and Madison on the court together...

Will Andre ever turn into a beast, or is he too large of a project?

That's a big PG. Pretty pumped for some big defensive lineups.

At least I'm excited about Wake bball again! Wow, I've missed this feeling. Can't wait to have this kid on campus.

From a UNC blogger:

Shelton Mitchell, 2014 4-star PG of Cuthbertson HS (Waxhaw, NC), committed to WF after his game tonight. Said he was thinking he wanted to commit for over a month now, but he wanted to make sure. Said now was the right time. Sounded like he committed because Wake was with him from the beginning.

"They were recruiting me since I was a high school freshman. They were with me no matter what."

I asked him about his visit to UNC for the UNLV game.

"I knew UNC was recruiting me, but it was nothing serious. After the game, I talked to a couple of the coaches. I never sat down with Roy Williams or anything like that."

Mitchell has offers from Clemson, South Carolina, Missouri and Virginia Tech, among others.

I saw him play this month in the HSOT Invitational. Scored 30 points in a loss vs. Hampton (Va), but beat NCSU PG commit Cat Barber in just about every facet. Deceivingly quick and a lefty. Great get for Wake, IMO.

Late Friday night, 2014 point guard, Shelton Mitchell (Cuthbertson High/Waxhaw, N.C.) came off the recruiting board, as he announced he would attend Wake Forest.

Mitchell broke the news by announcing it through his personal Twitter account, which is protected. Regardless, word spread quickly, as Justin Byerly of CarolinaPreps.com, along with others confirmed it.

The 6-foot-3 Mitchell, is considered a four-star point guard, according to Rivals.com. He picked the Demon Deacons over Arizona, Connecticut, Missouri, Illinois, Clemson, and several more schools.

Mitchell ran with the Chris Paul All-Stars on the AAU circuit, as the current Los Angeles Clippers point guard starred at Wake Forest for to seasons. Wake Forest head coach Jeff [Redacted] is getting a floor general in every sense of the world. Mitchell has great size and length for his position. He has strong handles and looks to find open teammate and create easy shots for them. On Friday, he told Arizona.Rivals.com his goal is to get double-digit assists every game.

“Shelton is the hardest working kid I’ve ever coached,” Mitchell’s high school coach Mike Helms told Jacey Zembal. “The kid is back in the gym. He’s texting me, ‘How can I get back in the gym the next day?’ He wants to get in there and get better in all facets of his game, and he has. He has continued to improve and knows there are areas he still needs to improve.”

Mitchell is the first commitment for the Demon Deacons for the 2014 class.

I'm proud of coach Bzz for this one, but I'm not so sure I agree with you. Shelton is coming in 2014. If [Redacted] wins less than 5 games in the ACC, I don't think we'll retain him. I'd put money on it if we could do such a thing. I have a feeling he needs to finish strong.

From Telep:

Wake Forest has landed its point guard of the future. Shelton Mitchell (Waxhaw, N.C./Cuthbertson), ranked No. 20 overall in the Class of 2014, made an early decision to commit to Jeff [Redacted]'s Demon Deacons on Friday.

"I thought about doing it a month ago," Mitchell said. "They've always been my favorite but I kept it to myself. I gave it a month to make sure and then slept on it again last night. When I woke up I knew. I always wanted to go to school there."

Mitchell was born on the West Coast but he's been bred on Wake Forest basketball, in particular point guard Chris Paul.

Mitchell plays for the CP3 All-Stars, attended Paul's point guard camp and is set to follow in his shoes. The same coach who recruited Paul, assistant Jeff Battle, was instrumental in locking down Mitchell.

Make no mistake about it, the traffic for Mitchell was steadily increasing and to score a pledge from one of the nation's true floor generals is a significant move for the Demon Deacons.

"They were the first (school) to come in," Mitchell said. "They told me when I was a freshman that I was their guy. I always was their guy."

Mitchell, who played in the state championship game last year, considers himself a member of the staff. A leader on the floor, he hopes his first assist comes before he steps on the court in Winston-Salem.

Mitchell said he keeps in contact with junior wing Kelly Oubre (Houston/Bush) and Gary Clark (Clayton, N.C./Clayton), a junior forward outside of Raleigh. No. 11 junior Leron Black (Memphis, Tenn./White Station), who just decommitted from Baylor this week, is another guy Mitchell intends to work over and said he keeps in regular contact with each.

"I'm working on whoever I can," Mitchell said. "I want to help bring in more guys."

As a sophomore, Mithchell averaged 23.4 points, 4.5 assists and 5.4 rebounds. This season he's averaging 21 points and five assists. He's the highest-rated recruit to commit to [Redacted] at Wake Forest.

I hate to disagree, but [Redacted] bought himself at least 3 more years with recruiting regardless of his record unless Wellman is fired.
