The Steubenville Files(High School football rape crew and mass coverup)

what exactly about that night was harmless?

Yeah, nm, that sounds bad and I didn't mean for it to sound that way.

I just hope kids take caution and I hope the coach gets at least fired.

especially given the evidence that the entire purpose of the night was to rape/humiliate this girl because she broke up with the dude on the team. that link that spot posted was fascinating but absolutely made my stomach turn. fuck all those shitheads in that shit town. god they make me sick.

Was this proven in court? Why did they only get a year then?

Who knows how accurate the "what really happened that night" section is but if any part of it is true... ugh.

Were some of the parties really at assistant coaches houses?

i JUST looked at that link, but now it's not working for me. but regardless, if i'm remembering correctly, one of the parties was also at the DA's house. the entire thing is just so screwed up.

I think he meant harmless in the fact that it wasn't like these guys were waiting in the bushes planning on raping somebody that night.

What these guys did is totally fucked up but I can see how the night very quickly spiraled out of control and bece something else.

I think that there are a lot of lessons to be learned from every party involved the players, the victim, their friends, the parents, the coach, etc.

some of the links talk about it. the two guys who ended up actually being convicted this week were both originally charged as adults, as there were additional charges of kidnapping. then the kidnapping charge got dropped and the guys were moved to juvi court. basically the entire town and justice system protects them. it's so screwed up.

talking out of my ass here, but it seems they were all very fortunate in the legal proceedings that they were tried as juvies, there were some familial connections to the law enforcement/prosecution, and there is a strong old boys network in that town that protects their own. this morning was the first time i've read anything extensive on the case, but the localleaks link that spot posted seems to have backed up their assertions pretty well. no clue how much of it wound up in the court room.

it could just be the way the media has spun it, but at least the way that the anonymous website wrote about it, they actually WERE planning on it going the way that it went. the girl broke up with one of the guys on the team, the guy was pissed and vowed to ruin her, and his friends were the ones who lured her out and drugged her. this wasn't like they all drank too much and made some mistakes. this was a plotted night where they had every intention of ruining her life.

That is messed up.

Why hasn't this town gotten the Duke LAX treatment? The only time I heard about this case was this original thread and a little bit on the news yesterday.

Go the way the city DA handled this was so egregious that the Ohio Attorney General had to step in.

Probably because the Duke LAX situation was all about black/poor vs white/rich.......a favorite national media narrative. This is "just" about a disgusting crime. I am amazed at how callous these people are about it and how willing everyone was to put it on the internet.

what lesson should the victim learn? not to break up with a boy? not to trust a guy when he says he likes her and to come party with her?

i think it was more so that it was a an elite national university with a top notch reputation, and the lax program was viewed in the same light. no one cares about an eastern ohio rustbelt high school.

I said that others could learn lessons from all parties involved. For example:
Not to get blackout drunk and leave all of your friends behind?

she was given a date rape drug. i love the blame the victim route, though. shockign the two shitty repubs can't help but show their asses on a rape thread.

I'm not blaming the victim and I didn't know that she was drugged.

The only thing that I've read on this was the CNN article covering the trial. I'm not blaming the victim at all. The fault here lies with the people that committed the crime. However, I seem to remember the sexual assault talk at wake reminding people to stay in groups and not lose control.

WHAT AN IDIOT!!!?!?!?!

After being convinced, with some amount of coaxing – to attend the parties that night with the “Rape Crew” by by Mark Cole’s girlfriend Santoro, Jane Doe was picked up at a volley ball team party she was attending in the early evening of August 11th and transported in a vehicle with Richmond, Mays and Cole in it. Jane Doe was administered a “date rape” drug snuck into her drink almost immediately, possibly while still in the vehicle enroute to the nights “festivities”. In any case, she has no memories after being picked up.

yes. one of the people who convinced her to come was a girl she thought was a friend who was in attendance at their first stop of the night.
