i prefer soft shell crab sandwiches and just plain crab cakes or crab legs otherwise.

definitely like crab cakes better without all of the bread in the way of the deliciousness. give me a crab cake any day over a crab cake sandwich.
 
Is the sandwich the perfect meal? Pizza is the only contender.

Are they overrated?

If it's some shit crab cake, give me the bread and the remoulade and all that junk. But when I'm in Maryland, I want lump and that's it.
 
I don't care for crab cakes in any setting. They are always disappointing to me. But I'll eat soft shells all day erryday.

Muffaletta is defs a good pick for Louisiana, but an oyster po' boy will always be my favorite LA sammich.

No, properly rated.

As for pizza vs. sandwiches, I'm not sure where I stand, but shitty pizza > shitty sandwiches.

A good sandwich has to have finesse. I think it's harder to execute.

I try not to go to Maryland if I can help it, but I can't remember the last time I got one and really liked it. There is a place in Baltimore that I recally wasn't terrible. And there are a couple places in Annapolis I've tried that aren't bad either. I know a lot of people like them, but they aren't my thing.
 
An italian grinder or whatever the hell they did for Rhode Island is a god damn travesty. Its the Ocean State for Christ's sake.

The best pit beef isn't Chap's...that's the place that has the name and you've seen on the shows. Nope, you want to go to Pioneer - a small shack that takes cash only. Convienent off 695 if you're on the west side of the city or driving north/south and willing to go on a bit of a detour. Trust me. I've never had this recommendation fail.

Although the meat in this picture isn't as rare as it should be and tiger sauce & onions is the preferred topping...

where is awakegirl to tell us about the ITALIAN heritage of rhode island? all the persecution and white on white racism they've dealt with? at least give them credit for their sandwich influence!

Get one at Jack's, theirs is good. And if you don't like that, then you just don't like crab.
