Haas's coach admits negativity on social media and internet affected Haas's decision

Bz has lost nearly everywhere he has coached. He lost badly for 3 years at his prior stop. He now has lost badly for 3 years at Wake. He has lost worse than anyone ever has at Wake, and far, far worse than anyone in the last 25 years.

It made no sense to hire him given his track record. It made even less sense to retain him given that he has not even lived up to his atrocious track record. Negative results breed negative reactions. His actions and Wellman's actions have embarrassed the school. I want our student-athletes to succeed and enjoy their time here, but they will do neither so long as Bz stays on. Don't mistake wanting Bz and Wellman out with wanting Wake to fail, or lose.

OK. Negativity may have played some role in his decision to not honor his verbal. We dont know how much, and it doesnt really matter. What conclusion do we draw? Do we naively stick our collective heads in the sand, hold hands, and sing Kumbaya? Or do we strive to address the very clear problems with the program that created the negativity in the first place?

One major stumbling block to resolving the problems present with our basketball team ... the AD stubbornly refuses to acknowledge that mistakes have been made. Excuses run rampant as accountability is nowhere in sight.

How about this for a contributing factor to Haas' decision ... Painter was there at Haas' practice on Friday, while our coach came dragging into town on Sunday. Never mind that a critical component to successfully maintaining any relationship is constant contact and communication. Recruiting is no different. And ignore the Aesop's fox folks that want to claim that the kid wasnt that good anyway ... this is a huge loss for the program.

The lack of integrity on the part of Ron Wellman in the hiring and retention of Jeff [Redacted] is far worse for the university than any post, or posts, by any poster, or group of posters, on any internet site or social media.

Edited to add: To suggest the contrary is simply preposterous and blaming the victim rather than the perpetrator.

To be fair, Bz was coaching on Friday.

I still cannot wrap my brian around this. I like to think I'm intelligent, but the fact that this is allowed to continue just boggles my mind. I want to get paid a lot of money to suck at my job and not worry about being held accountable.

Yes, but I would have rather he had gotten on a plane on Thursday, the after the kid didnt sign after being committed since September, show some concern and urgency, and let Coach B prepare for PC. If someone I care about surprises me with such unexpected behavior, I dont wait four days to go see them. That certainly includes a recruit so important to this program, especially if my job might be on the line.

As I think about it, I would have rather Coach B had gotten on that plane ... but that is another point entirely.

Don't mods change inaccurate thread titles? Isn't that a thing?

I was wondering the same thing and I was wondering why don't we bring as much of the staff as possible on Sunday?

No, there are fans who recognize that Wellman and Buzz are stewards of and not proxies for Wake. If you hire a housekeeper who takes giant shits all over your house, and then you fire her, are you being disloyal to your house?

I didn't think so.
Can she coach basketball?

At least Buzz got the memo on the ties. He is not wearing those awful ones from the past. Seems like he got the memo on that one.

Funny how 5 lovable and hysterical queer guys can ridicule a guy to death on TV in the hopes of making him better, but you do it on a message board to a bball coach at Wake Forest and you're labeled a "lunatic!"

OG&BF = Queer Eye for the Wearer of Bad Ties

Just out of curiosity:

Do message boards count as "social media?" I'm a grumpy old SOB so I'm not up on all the lingo the hipster kiddies are using these days but thinking back to Rancho De Nada, Yahoo boards, accboards.com, I don't recall anyone labeling it "social media." But I'm so out of touch, Maude re-runs get me hot. I guess I'm wondering if he is surrepticiously pointing to these boards (or scout).

He probably read Braces' posts on Scout and she creeped him out.

No reason for all three assistants to be there, especially the Friday before signing day. They weren't tuned in to the situation. We got owned by Painter. We should have been at that practice and run Painter out of the gym. Unbelievable.

Agreed. We played small ball and got bitch slapped.

Buzz running another coach out of the gym? This I've got to see.

I'll say it again: I believe the kid when he says it didn't play any role, BUT even if it did, this "negativity" would not even compare to the negativity that would be put out by other schools who actually give a damn about their athletics. There are many such examples with the latest being USC. AD Hayden said that the firing was in part due to the fans and donors response to what was happening to their beloved football program. It didn't take but a few blowouts before the "negativity" was rampant. Now look at the program at USC once the cancer was removed.
