Deacs Soccer 2013-2014.

We are likely going to be fighting some pretty cold weather as well as top notch squad. Notre Dame has one of the best midfielders in Shipp. We are in for a very tough match. Let's get it done.

No worries. My wife just asked me about our next game and told me that playing in South Bend this time of year, and I quote, "is no big deal."

I just came across this Wake soccer video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQnHtVUujNI&feature=youtu.be It's awesome. Great team, fans, camera work, music, and editing. Whoever is making the videos for Wake sports lately has been doing an incredible job. The football and basketball intro videos are also awesome.

This video is good too, with lots of highlights from this season and a discussion of the upcoming game this Sunday against ND. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqGuop5V740&feature=youtu.be

Has Parkhurst had the best professional career of a Wake player?

Other players that were really good at Wake include Corben Bone, Ike Opara, Jeremiah White, Zach Schilawski, Austin Da Luz, Brian Carroll, and Sam Cronin.

You also forgot my boy WELLS. He too has had, arguably, one of the more consistent MLS careers.

Yep, notre dame is really going to be tough, but Wake can win it. When they played in Winston Wake dominated possession, but nd made the most of their counters. Two of their 3 goals were really incredible shots.

When I was watching Wake play on Sunday I was again impressed with Jared Watts, and it got me wondering who is Wake's best soccer player of all time. Of the players I saw in person, and just counting their time at Wake, I would have to go with Marcus Tracy. He was just dominant for two seasons.

Tracy, hands down.

Watts is definitely the man. Schilawski was a better overall player than Tracy, but Tracy just couldn't stop scoring goals. Dude just scored goals. So many goals. Best college player in the air I've ever seen by a long shot. Brian Edwards and Akira Fitzgerald had great college careers.

Also, let's not forget Julian Valentin. Or Cody Arnoux.

And my BOY Skip Jenkins who was my skills coach for a couple seasons when I was a kid.

Also surprised wakephan09 didn't mention his favorite player and person, Lyle Adams.

Cody scored more goals than Marcus and played in fewer games. Cody was a beast at putting it in the back of the net. (Not saying I think either is better than the other. They were both great.)

In addition to those listed by Rafi, I would add Hesmer, Stafford, Scott Sealy, Brian Edwards (who never gets enough credit, IMO), Phelan and Wells Thompson. Maybe Josh Timbers, who could play any position on the field.

If I had to pick one, it might be Sam Cronin, though I admit I did not fully appreciate what he brought to the team until after he was gone. He was so good on indirects. He benefited greatly from playing with guys like Tracy, Arnoux and Opara, and vice versa. Exhibit A:

Marcus Tracy was great, no doubt. But I always thought the majority of our chances on that absurdly good '08 team came through the work of Sam Cronin, Corben Bone, and Austin da Luz. I remember Austin in particular being able to switch the field with a 50 yard bomb in a way that most college players could only dream of. Schilawski, Arnoux, and Tracy were all wonderful to have on the back end of those chances, but man... our midfield that year...

Wow I totally forgot about Skip. I am trying to remember some of those old Twin City guys. Obviously Chris Brewer. We had an asian guy that coached with Skip, but cant remember his name. Payton was a coach when we were older.

We had an older Vietnamese guy as our coach for a couple months, who would yell these awesome catch phrases when we took two touches instead of one, like "What you waiting for, Christmas?" But I don't think he was related to Wake.

Bashir el Besti was the best coach we ever had. RIP.

Raymond was Asian?

Kevin Rice was another local guy, IIRC. He had a solid career at Wake.

I would still argue that Justin Moose was the best player that we've ever had. Maybe not most important to team success (for that, I'd argue Cronin or Phelan), but certainly most talented. Dude was absolutely insane:

Wake highlights start at 1:21, but I'd recommend watching all of it.

I remember being at the Wake soccer camp the summer before Moose's freshman year. He was just helping out at the camp. I must have been about 14 and I think it was the camp session that was for older players and teams. Most of the kids were around my age and all classic level or above players (I'm pretty sure Cronin and Da Luz were there). Moose stood in the middle of a huge circle of all the campers and proceeded to let anyone come at him and try to take the ball from him. He embarrassed a solid 20 kids with ease. It was just amazing because he was only a few years older than us at the time.

Serge Daniv was the most talented player Wake has ever had, but probably not a lot of you saw him. If he hadn't had knee trouble, it wouldn't even be close. From the last decade I'd say either Cronin or Parkhurst as the best, though I think Pat Phelan's senior year was one of the best seasons by a college soccer player I've ever seen.

Soriano is Filipino, I believe.

I saw Serge play. He had great footwork and ball control, similar to Moose or Bone, but he was a little stronger than both.

Stream is driving me crazy with repeating action. 1-1 15 minutes in.
