LOL... Yet another board urban myth.

In 2001 the highest paid college coaches were Steve Spurrier and Bob Stoops at just over $2M per.

Only 11 coaches earned over $1.2M in 2001.

Jim Grobe's compensation his first year at Wake was ~$750k per Wake's 2002 form 990. The most recent year available was $2.25M.

I wonder what the ratio of truths to inaccuracies on this board have been the last several days?

That can't be right... Ph said he made $1.2M in the first year of his Wake contract and we all are familiar with Ph's track record.

The only obvious explanation is Casstevens forged the 990 from 2002.

Time for another y-axis graph and billboard.

I don't know where the $1.2M came from, but as a general rule the LOWF club is far less in touch with the economic facts available than those of us who actually have standards and expectations.

I was the one who said $1.2M in year 1. Pretty sure Caldwell made $900k his last year. Grobe definitely made more.

If you hate it so much Angus, you're allowed to leave

First, I did two things for the sake of simplicity: 1) rounded. 2) consolidated all numbers into one. This includes some significant deferred comp numbers for some years with both Grobe and Wellman. Later years have a somewhat detailed breakdown if you want to look at the individual PDFs. I am not going to pretend like I know anything about how their compensation is structured, hence the single number. Second, Wake is on a June 30 fiscal year. With the way the documents are marked, FY2011 actually ends June 30 2012. This is confusing and not what I'm accustomed to seeing with 10ks and other public company filings. Sorry. Third, these aren't my numbers. These are the numbers Wake reported to the IRS. If you think they're wrong then you're probably wrong. If you aren't, then someone is in trouble.

This is awesome! Thanks for the research. At close to a million is WEllman one of the highest paid ADs?

So Bz made $1.4M in 2011?

Yes..I am not quite sure who we were bidding against there. His guaranteed pay at Colorado was $650k and his max pay (meaning if he won a national championship) was $1250k. Great job Ronny.

buried in the returns it also specifies how much total athletic scholorships are ($3.8MM in '07) that was debated in another thread on the profitability of the AD as a whole.

I saw that, but I'm thinking that's actually just room and board? That's at least how I read it (I don't care enough to find it again).

The numbers on that schedule add up to over $50MM, which is approximately what the total scholarship allowance under tuition and fees was for 2008 $58MM. Forget what tuition/room/board was in 2007 but that'd indicate something in the range of approximately 150 full scholarship athletes at Wake? Sounds about right unless everyone on the soccer and field hockey team is getting full rides.

Also of note the bookstore makes a shitton more than our entire athletic department.

Over 2 million a year on RW and bzzz -- RW sure knows how to line his and his friend's pockets. What a tremendous waste of money. Heck, I could have our basketball team finish last in the ACC for 100K or so.

I don't begrudge Grobe one red penny.
